January 11, 2024 - Lively, though a little less zip than I expected from 2001. Peach, citrus zest, a little petrol. Decent length, not a star ‘01 but fun. B

December 24, 2011 - A lovely yellow hue, just beginning to go golden. On the nose, fairly subdued with a little talc, some bing cherries, a hint of petrol. The mouth is where the action is with perfect balance for my tastes, marked with a good attack of sultana fruit, steely acidity and terrific length. Tastes of grapefruit rind also appear on the end. Gets a bit lactic-talc-calcareous on the mid-palate, not something I really want in my wine, but it's not out of control. Overall, this has terrific density without being overtly sweet. Really good, would be even better with out the calcium.

June 4, 2010 - Grapy fruit has settled down some. Nice enough but not the acidity that would make it more outstanding.

May 21, 2009 - Ebullient, almost grapey fruit, acid enough though less than usual for Leitz. Not a star in the Leitz constellation, though certainly worth drinking. I think lowered expectation rather than time will enhance the experience.

September 13, 2006 - This was an interesting Spatlese. I initially thought it may have been corked since it carried a very unique flavor profile. There were nuances of minerals and some subtle spice that seemed out of place and unique for my perception of a Spatlese. I now notice that this is a Rheingau and that might contribute to the differences in flavor from a Mosel region. While it was interesting I would have to say I did not enjoy it as much as others, especially in this price point.
