December 10, 2023 - Very classic old school Napa; still with a dark color and the nose is expressive immediately; black currant, blackberry, black cherry, tobacco, leather, herbs; the palate has resolved tannins, and lovely energy. Very good. Definitely in the fully mature and starting to fade, but well stored and well sealed bottles will continue to last for years with some life. This was a bottom neck fill with a pretty good cork seal.

September 4, 2021 - In our cellar for many years-great fill, cork. We still have the better part of the vertical left.

From the glory days of Napa, before the days of homogenous,“Napa style“ wines - a beauty that still sings…

In a blind tasting, you’d swear it was a 40-year old 2eme Cru Left Bank Bordeaux. A few more years of good life still left in it. Classic!

November 28, 2019 - This was one of the best food wines I’ve had in my life. This paired well with everything. I was surprised by how acid-driven it was given my recent experience with napa. On the nose, it smelled heavily of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate, it tasted of cherries, pomegranate, balsamic vinegar, red flowers, tobacco, vanilla and volcanic dirt.

September 22, 2018 - Up there with the best Cali Cabs I've had. Stunning. Great acidity and vibrant, tart, licorices-infused fruit, a dollop of dried tobacco leaf, and a long, lingering finish. Neither Mrs. S nor I could believe it was 37 years old.

October 27, 2017 - Opened by Allred. From magnum. 2nd time I have had this wine. Very smooth and still lively at 36 years old. Notes of earthy fruit and tobacco. 96 points.
