February 7, 2024 - I really liked this wine, drunk over a two day period.

As my cellar is beginning to mature I am finally able to pull some bottles with a little age on them. With that said, 2005 are always so young, and pulled with trepidation, and generally villages. This lovely wine started with some of that single eyebrow raising 2005ness… but really settled in with some lovely, red Volnay fruit, consisting of red berry bush fruit, with some iron traits, and a whiff of clay dust. The wine drank very well, it had power, and edginess, with an excellent feel. It was bright, shiny, with plenty of fresh crunchiness. I really liked it!

May 28, 2023 - Dyp rubinrød. Antydning til alder.

Lukter rips, krydder, sopp og skogbunn.

Røde bær, kirsebær, sopp og tertiære aromaer. Mangler syre og frukt for å nå helt opp. Grei lengde.

Interessant å smake en gammel Volnay, men ingen høydare. Drikk opp.

January 31, 2021 - A strikingly beautiful village wine. When first opened, it seemed a bit simple in terms of fruit and aroma, but after an hour in the decanter a gorgeous nose of bright red fruit emerged. On the palate, smooth tannins, balanced acidity, and deep red fruit notes with earthy tones predominated.

April 13, 2019 - Nothing has changed over the last year, so for the aromatics and overall style you might refer to my previous TN.
The wine still needs a lot of air and - as often is the case - the last glas was the best, on day 2! As there is still considerable tannin and the acidity is quite brisk, I honestly suggest to give it another 3 to 5 years. Certainly some tertiary characteristics have emerged and also a beautiful sweet perfume unfurls, but the wine does not seem finished and is certainly not in decline. A sturdy beauty.

February 10, 2018 - Young, pure, red fruited, lively, dry and delicously old-school.
Currently sipping on my first glass and very curious about how this is going to drink while warming up and breathing.
Has developed in the most positive way since my last encounter.
Addition: After two+ hours the wine has become quite earthy on the nose and did put on weight in the mouth. Not exactly feminin Volnay-style but nevertheless very good and after 13 years still very age-worthy. Wow!

September 23, 2017 - This is really entering its drinking plateau. Still quite tannic and masculine, it offers a bouquet of bacon, dark cherries and lots of iron. It offers potential for another 5-10 years.

February 26, 2017 - in full bloom now, and a delicious wine. Smoky dark cherries with a tannic finish. Will keep for a long time but I'd say it's drinking perfectly right now.

January 24, 2015 - This is definitely high quality, but it is years away from drinking pleasure!
The color is "2005ish dark", the smell is pure and intense: Mainly dark fruits, but also some sweet rasperries, game, and a bit of iron. Classy and old-school.
The taste is also old-school: Dry and structured. Medium acidity. Quite powerful and meaty. More Pommard than Volnay. No oak detectable.
But the wine shuts down immediatly! Even on day two it is mostly about structure.
If you want to try one, then serve it with a big steak - that may be a good choice. Otherwise I would keep my hands of it for at least (!) another three years. I have the feeling that this wine will reward the patient highly. 87++

July 13, 2013 - Reluctant nose of cherry, some bacon, earth and iron. The wine is still quite young, with a good tannin structure. It misses a little length and is quite masculine.
I will not open another bottle for quite some time.

February 3, 2013 - Floral and dusty nose of ripe cherries, cellar, radish, and mushroom. The palate follows with dark cherries over savage edge of game and dried green herbs. The finish, though tiring slightly, persists with cranberries, lavender, and granite. This is very good, just not very exciting. R&M88
