April 16, 2020 - It may be past the supposed DBD but it is still yummy. Not flabby or bricky still even has a bit of purple tinge on the rim. Strong dark fruit nose with maybe a tinge of Rutherford dust? Good viscosity with nice finish and suppple mouthfeel. Still good stuff Maynard!

February 19, 2017 - Nose: Dusty (talc?), leafy, leather with a hint of eucalyptus or menthol

Taste: Supple, integrated fruit but not distinct or precise. A bit zesty on the finish but not in a negative way. Hints of black olive throughout. Very nice, long finish.

November 17, 2016 - Wonderful bottle; right in its drinking window. Don't recall the tasting specifics as I was too tired to post notes last night. All I will say is the drinking window here is too short; this is in a good place now and I don't see it following off for at least 3-4 years.

April 13, 2015 - Doubted as to how well this simply named "Red Wine" could follow 2003 SQN Papa syrah. Should have had no doubts -- glorious. Unfortunately last bottle.

January 3, 2015 - DEEP RICH BERRY FRUIT IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR WITH BLACK CHERRIES AND BLACKBERRIES. NICE COMPLEXITY AND A MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.

May 25, 2013 - Dep purple in color. Not a huge nose but a huge wine. Dense black fruit, especially blueberry, fruit leather and butterscotch. Spicy and unctuous. Long finish. The wine is reminiscent of Shafer Hillside Select, with a tad more sweetness. Total crowd pleaser.

May 6, 2013 - Decanted approx. 1 hour ... Our second (and last) bottle was far better than our first. Muted nose, but bright, tart red fruits to open with a richer middle and dry, medium-long finish. Very good, but still not a good value at this price point.

February 15, 2013 - Splash decant ... Interesting flavor profile. Big and rich up front, but still quite hot and not enough going on in the backend. The lush and plush fruit, and matching beautiful nose, promise more than this one delivers. There's a little spice and chocolate, but not enough to make it interesting. Really crying out for structure and some acidity. Good wine, but not a good value at $50/bottle.

December 17, 2012 - Same as before - big, firm, fruity wine.

October 29, 2012 - Popped and poured, but drank slowly. It took over an hour for the heat to come into balance with the fruit, but when it did, this was a big, spicy, fruity wine that could have done with a touch of tannin to round it off.
