February 27, 2016 - Q1 Tasting - Cabernet Franc wines (Our Apt): Wine #12: Drank as part of a blind tasting of Cabernet Franc. For some reason I ended up pretty distracted during the tasting of this wine and I don't think I paid it the proper attention. The cough syrup and tannin combination is all I noted. I did go back to revisit when we realized that we had a '98 and '05 from the same producer/vineyard and I remember thinking it was amazing how much difference there was between the two wines. This one had quite a bit more fruit in it, was still very young tasting. None of the caramelized coffee tones of age. (3 pennies)
April 3, 2011 - Among a bunch of wines, this gem stood out. Groovy wine. Very Chinon. Starting to lose the hard edges with lovely structured CF fruit. In a nice place, but will be amazing in 5 yrs..except it has a neo cork, so I'm drinking my last one by 2014.
February 12, 2010 - Clay, pepper, herbs and some cloves on the nose. Seems somewhat closed aromatically in comparison to what I remember fro last times. Zingy blackberry and bitter herbs on the palate. Super dry. Quite tannic. Shortish finish. A bit nondescript. Lacking in some classic Chinon character. Good structure, but fruit is fading, so I'm skeptical about it's ability to age well.
December 5, 2009 - 89 - Excellent
October 29, 2009 - Very slight, floral nose. Strong fruit on the palate with blackberries and cherries. Some notes of baking spice, earth as well. The body is ok, the finish a little short with kind of a bitterness. I'm definitely not as excited as I appeared to be in last years note but I still found the wine very enjoyable. This would be a good wine to have with roast chicken or grilled porkchops.
August 30, 2009 - A good effort. Dark and Concentrated (by Chinon standards) with gripping tannins, but not much on the nose. By my tastes a little brutish and uninteresting. I think I prefer the lighter, more aromatic efforts.
August 21, 2009 - Blackberry, touch of blueberry and black raspberry, with fresh ground black pepper, and black beans.
April 2, 2009 - Well, the first glass was open and wonderful, with pipe tobacco and plummy dark Cab franc fruit. It tightened up considerably with air and wasn't giving much other than some furry tannins at the finish. Recorked and saved the rest for manana. No noticeable brett or off flavors.
1st glass seems shot, but then the wine rallies, or my mouth adjusts,or something. Seems very earthy, roasted plum skins, and the good cinnamon kind of brett, that I didn't notice last night.
Finishes very dry and some bitterness to the tannin. Very much a 2005 feature. This wine could definitely age well with a real cork. Enjoyable, but not an easy Chinon at this stage.
February 21, 2009 - Like the style. Lots of blackberry, herbs and spice. Secondary notes of cassis and minerals. A bit thin on the mid palate.
January 27, 2009 - Tasty combo of fruit and funk. Did a roast chicken proud. Drinks well, might age, but with plastic cork just bought a couple for near term.
