March 4, 2024 - Enjoyed it quite a lot. Not as convincing as the last time, but still ok. But wouldnt probably pay 50€ again for this wine in that year. 98 Parker Points? Not tonight.
February 25, 2024 - DC Dinners and Tastings; 2/24/2024-2/26/2024 (Washington, DC): Ripe strawberries, ripe raspberries, mint/spearmint on the nose; which reminds me of California Mourvedre in a great way. Medium + intensity of aromas. Smells stemmy and mineral-driven. Palate is way fruitier, though the flavors are consistent with the aromas. It's driven by juicy strawberries and raspberries; but keeps the mint too. Medium + intensity of flavors and texturally juicy.
Medium + body with medium acid and medium + tannin. There's a bit of alcohol burn at the end that prevents this from being truly outstanding; but it's probably the best Spanish Monastrell I have ever had.
November 16, 2023 - Not quite as rich as one might expect. Ryan notes and animal fat business going on. A rather big wine. Tight now, needs to open.
November 5, 2023 - Good, but I really think it would gain on some times on it's back. 90.
November 4, 2023 - Same impression as in my last note.
October 31, 2023 - Drank at a dinner party. Bottle was provided by the host and decanted. Right from the beginning an expressive floral aroma.
Wine was not too young, medium body. Cant believe that I start to fall in love with spanish wine again. To me, spanish wines are often overrated by more or less serious ratings. But here, Parker might be right with 98 points. Well, at least the direction….. ordered 3 today for 55€ each.
October 17, 2023 - Medium body. Dark fruit. Way too young. Holding the rest for at least 4 years.
July 13, 2023 - Delicious, after a night open under cork. Medium weight, some smoke and savory, great acidity.
June 24, 2023 - Party at Wimborne. Drank in Grassl Cru.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, with aromas of dusty weathered stones minerality, licorice, concentrated red berries, raspberries, spice. Youthful.
On the palate, dry, just about high acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), fine high tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet spices, licorice, sweet raspberries, strawberries. Long finish.
Very good quality. Red fruited but big and lots of potential, just a tad dull at the moment in all its youthfulness. Another 4-5 years will be good.
92% Monastrell, 8% Garnacha.
