    November 23, 2023 - Decanted 2hr

Sour cherry, dust on the nose. heat(alcohol) on the nose and palate. Sour/black cherry cranberry, plum sauce, black pepper spice, Strong tannins, med acidity. Needed a long decant to balance out.

Would not buy again at price point

September 21, 2023 - Superb. Definetly deserves elevation to GC status.

April 20, 2023 - {Bought on release, last note was from Dec 2022; no ullage, sound cork} Huge, feral to start then just sauvage iron-laced black fruits, excellent depth and length. This bottle did not require decanting as did the Dec 2022 bottle (see note from then). Really excellent.

January 12, 2023 - BYOB at my place Ulysses Colin, 2002 Keller Hubacker, 2013 Roulot Mersault Virules, 1982 & 1996 Cosd’Estournel, 1987 Forman Cab, 2002 Chevillion NSG Vaucrains, 2002 Roumier MSD Bussiere, 1999 Yquem and Bereche Brut Reserve.

1 of 6 opened @3:00 served @8:00 deep ruby core with lightening rim. Initial nose more red than blue fruited than I expect from this Cru, spice and mineral notes emerged after two hours. At serving the palate displayed deep layers of dark cherry fruit, resolving tannins, smooth texture and persistent finish. This wine should improve over the next decade.

January 1, 2023 - Typical of Vaucrains vs. the Les Saint Georges also drunk today, this wine is more tannic, mineral, and stony. It may eventually get there, but today it doesn't have the full harmony that the LSG had. Cellared since original release.

December 19, 2022 - {Bought a case on release, probably #6 of the 12, sound cork} Sauvage, ripe Pinote nose with mostly black fruits, very good depth, powerful and complex, not perfectly balanced (but the imbalance shifted and made the wine more interesting, in an odd way). At times came across like an older Syrah, other times meaty and gamy... I really like Vaucrains as a site because of this aspect. Still has some unresolved tannins that softened over the 90 minutes of dinner. Table split with 2 of 4 preferring this Vaucrains over the 2003 Bocquenet Echezeaux (93 too). Huge sediment. Great stuff.

August 3, 2022 - Sweet nose of dark fruits backed by a nice helping of spices against a backdrop of forest floor. This had great structure - the firm tannins and ample acidity supported the dark ripe fruits well on the palate.

Unfortunately, I only got enough for a few sips after dinner. It was a great note to end on.

June 5, 2022 - (Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Hughes House - Chicago IL): Big and powerful, just not fully harmonious. Tannins more pronounced than ideal for the level of fruit still here.

May 25, 2022 - I liked this even better! Rich, can age 30 years, but delightful now. Red and black cherry, sandalwood, loamy soil, espresso. A-/A

May 5, 2022 - Very dark colour. Grippy, black fruit on the palate. Reference standard, classic nuits. Will be spectacular in the next 5-10 years.
