March 23, 2023 - Tricky! Startlingly complex nose. Give it lots of air. This is clearly a beautifully made wine. Balance of powerful nose, tight tannins and driven fruit.

The palate is packed with currant/berry, eucalypt, liquorice, earth and - I kid you not - crushed Australian ant. This is an unmistakable Australian summer aroma - a peppery, dry, sappy, tannic note, penetrating on the nose. Wow! This is the concentrated power of a classic Western Victoria Shiraz. Terroir +++

We know the 2019-2020 season was full of high heat, northerly dry winds and bushfires. I don’t want to suggest the tarry aspects of this wine are a fault. I think they’re actually a very specific seasonal characteristic.

A fascinating wine - power and structure, imperfect but beguiling. I would not leave this one until the late 2030s. I think more 2025 to 2032. Hats off to the wine maker in a difficult climate and a difficult year!

January 8, 2023 - Clean, well made, flavoursome GW shiraz. Should age well.
