February 17, 2024 - This wine may be heading for a quiet period. It needed two hours in a decanter to open up and fill out. When it did finally come together it was lovely, if a bit less sappy than some prior editions of Evangelho from Bedrock and others. This might even be an elegant wine, which is not a descriptor I usually associate with this site. There's more than enough depth and flavor, it just comes from a gentler place than I am used to. Once I got my head around that I loved it, and spent a lot of time thinking about all the different ways this particular rendition could be used with various foods. While this isn't the most exuberant Evangelho Heritage Wine, it may be the most flexible.

February 12, 2024 - Had 3 terrific bottles of this last year, and now this one's an undrinkable mess. Fizzy, apparently refermenting in bottle, sour and slightly yeasty, yikes.

(edit/update: The wine may be a dud, but the folks at Bedrock continue to be awesome. Heard back from one of them within a few hours with an offer to replace the bottle not long after I emailed them about the bottle issue. These guys are awesome.)

December 14, 2023 - Consistent notes from 3 bottles opened in the fall/winter, all superb and making me think I need to order even more the next time I get the Bedrock mailer. Yes it's young and tannic, but it's goddamn delicious right now.

December 3, 2023 - Eucalyptus, red berry, nice nose, moderate finish tilting earth rather than fruit. Substantial tannins left, I''ll hold my other bottle a few years.

November 26, 2023 - After finishing a bottle the 2014 of this, we decided to Coravin a glass from a 2021 bottle. TNs after 90 minutes in the glass.

Nose of black cherries, blackberries, sweet baking spices, a bit of blueberry, and a hint of saline. Medium to medium-light bodied, high and bright acidity, and very structured. Palate of bright dark cherries, blueberries, light red fruits, tea, cocoa, minerals, and light sweet baking spices. Moderate level, but very assertive tannins combine with the acidity for a lot of structure. Long finish of minerals, black tea, fruit skin, and a bit of dark cocoa.

Very good, but this needs a lot more time down. Maybe in 3 to 4 years for me.
