January 20, 2024 - Just opened this so it may need to breath more, but its really good. Great bouquet. A bit rough on first tasting but it should mellow in a bit. Very earthy flavors, though its not overly heavy. More medium bodied but full flavored.

August 14, 2023 - Disappointingly reasonable the first few days in comparison to a 2011 loved 9 years after vintage, so set aside a few days to ineffectually speculate about the potential difference between the 15% that was from Hawk Mountain vs this year's 15% from (checks notes) Umbria, wherever that is. Tasted like Bea, school of
However, a few days in the fridge transmogrified this into one of my favorite 14 dollar wines in the world, the les Pierres d'Aurele Nouvelle Lune gamay, so I guess there's no place like home, there's no place like home, there's no1 person found this helpful Comment -

May 2, 2023 - Such a nice, earthy, smoky nose. Wide open and gritty in the best sort of way with delicious dark cherry fruit along with notes of forest floor and fresh herbs. Finishes with a complex and taut mineral crunch. So good with red sauced meats!

March 8, 2023 - Shape shifting.
At first, shortly after opening/ pouring, intense aromas of asphalt and petrol. Appropriate, it became obvious, as the wine opened up in the glass, as if in a drag race, and those scents gave way to raw power - expressed through dark fruit, leather, and roast meats, with flavors that mirrored, then amplified those sensations. Pedal to the metal intensity. Perfect with mushroom risotto, and I can well imagine, charcoal broiled red meats.
Rated +2 on a scale of -1 to +3. -

February 14, 2023 - Popped and poured; enjoyed over two hours. The 2017 “San Valentino” pours a slightly hazy garnet color with a watery rim and a translucent core. Moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, this is the mousiest Bea I can recall in some time. Thankfully there is plenty of other interests. Powerful notes of dark cherries, blackberries, dark chocolate, and spiced kofta. There is some VA too but what do you expect? On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. The notes from the nose are confirmed and the finish is long savory. Another lovely edition of San Valentino that perhaps reveals the natural approach of the Beas more than other recent examples but there is no shortage of style, soul and pleasure. Drink now and over the next 5-10 years.
