March 27, 2024 - It’s still good. I would drink now though.
February 4, 2024 - Wrong year put in notes it’s 1992 vintage
January 25, 2024 - Bit thin compared to the others, slightly sour, med body, not bad, but nothing to write home about. DD Blind 1982-2005 Bordeaux 1st Growth dinner at BOA steakhouse.
December 26, 2023 - Still very full with fruit. Limited tannins.
December 24, 2023 - Stored in a cold cellar since release. Fill just below cork. Cork in excellent condition. Glorious bouquet of lead pencils, cedar and forest mould. Great elegance and finesse, Mouth filling. Just lingers in the mouth. Red fruit seems to dominate. Wonderful Graves. Drink fairly soon.
December 22, 2023 - 1953 Dinner: Milestone Birthday (Gemma Fish + Oyster): We’ve returned to the ‘young-uns’ by which I mean I was alive when the wine was made although of course this has lots of great age as well. It’s a wonderful bottle. Drinking great and really intriguing. HB is one of my favorite of the first growths and this shows why that would be. The only nit picking is maybe a touch too young which you realize especially after the older wine.
November 24, 2023 - Decanted a couple of hours before dinner. The cork was in very good condition and came out whole, but there was some seepage up it which hadn't yet reached the top.
Very good colour, with just a little light browning on the edges. Superb bouquet with complex notes of blue fruit, tar and sandalwood. Quite fresh on the palate, very elegant and well-balanced, and with a lovely long aftertaste. Fully mature.
It could perhaps have done with a little more concentration on the mid-palate, but this was jolly good stuff!
November 19, 2023 - Thanksgiving Mondo Dinner 2023 (Atlanta, GA): Tasted double blind. Very similar to wine #1. Rockin' nose with sweet tobacco, cedar, and a touch of brett. Slightly abrupt prickly finish. Nevertheless, it is drinking in a really good spot right now.
October 28, 2023 - Ojai Food + Wine Festival; 10/26/2023-10/29/2023 (Ojai Valley Inn): Great stuff
September 5, 2023 - So, this is what a cigar smoking lounge smells like on a night when everyone seems to be enjoying their favorite Cuban cigar. Add to that, cherry pipe tobacco, burning leaves, currants, blackberries, leather, tar and scorched earth and you get an idea of the perfume, The palate is loaded with elegant, silky, fresh, spicy, sweet red fruits with a delicate edge. This was a very good bottle, though, I’ve had even better examples, as this wine can be majestic. Drink from 2023-2042.
