Community Tasting Notes 10

September 15, 2012 - AFter the poor showing by the Garreston Aisling I was happy this one was not over the top. Glenn tasted it and called it jammy. I got black fruits. I see others calling the wine pruney but I didn't get that. Nothing about this wine screamed syrah, though. Sadly, I've got another bottle left.

March 24, 2011 - almost undrinkable. Too sweet, with lots of sediment, and a raisiny, astringent nose.

    July 22, 2009 - – cracked and poured –
    – tasted non-blind over 4 Days –
    – TN reflects Day 4 –

NOSE: eucalyptus at the front, with strawberry Twizzlers following; hint of mollasses; smells like an Aussie with some age on it — all that is the good news ... the bad news is this didn’t survive to Day 4: all the aforementioned elements are there, but are horribly masked by oxidative aromas – it didn’t smell like this on Day 1 – this clearly cannot go for 4 days.

BODY: dark purple-garnet color of medium to medium-deep depth; little bit of sediment present; (forgot to note weight of wine).

TASTE: once again, the oxidation that is now present, on Day 4, makes this pretty much undrinkable, but that's not the wine's fault -- it was much bigger, like a typical Aussie shiraz, and not oxidized a few days ago; now, oxidized and tart mess; late-hitting hotness in stomach; 15.5% alc.. No score, as this wine didn't get a fair shake (should have been scored on Day 2, probably).

April 29, 2009 - Great if you're looking for a wine to pair with Jolly Ranchers. Otherwise undrinkable. I would give it a score, but I don't know how to rate a wine that I wouldn't drink.

December 14, 2008 - terribly out of balance and ridiculous amounts of alcohol on the palate, this is maybe the worst of many garretson's ive sampled. we decanted it as the back of the bottle suggested but it only got worse with time. huge pass.
