October 16, 2011 - Nicely aged with fino like nose. Mineral laden with slight reductive notes. Good limey acidity . V elegant and controlled. Classy creamy peaches. This bottle has blossomed quite nicely.

October 11, 2011 - Dinner at La Noce (La Noce, Valley Point): An unusual occurrence - two Rioja Blancos in a couple of weeks. This was very impressive though. At 9 years of age, one gets a feeling that it has just about crept into its peak drinking window. Yellowish gold in colour, it had developed lots of character on the nose, with honey and beeswax tones at the fore followed up by aromas of cooked figs, nectarines and other stone fruity accents set over layers of spicy, earthy, soil notes with a little waft of flowers and herbs - a bit Rhone-like and very nice. There was just the slightest touch of oxidation at the edges that suggested sherry, but this seemed to add rather than subtract from the whole - a very attractive nose indeed. The palate had every bit as much character too. Quite rich, nicely honeyed, but with rather fresher stone fruit flavours than suggested on the slightly ripe, mustily flowered nose - there was a really nice, mouthwatering juiciness to its stone fruit flavours of preaches and nectarine that flowed alongside the honeyed tones. This juicy acidity really opened up the palate very nicely from the midpalate and into an energetic finish where a spike of citrus fruit tones - think green guavas - mingled with hints of saline mneral. A very nice, complex drink that went very well with a fried calamari dish. This was very enjoyable.

March 18, 2009 - Petroleum fumes that give way to white stonefruits and lots of citrus that eventually gave way to red apple skins. Focused beam of lemon citronella flavours punctuated by minerality. A little flabby on the sides. Became smokier and creamier at the end. Feels like a mersault and aussie semillion mix.

June 25, 2008 - Similar notes as recorded earlier, but also detected vanilla cream. Tonight I had this wine with a slightly spicy, Mexican inspired dish of pork tenderloin and tomato stew, which included cumin, celery ,and fresh coriander (nacho chips on the side). The effect on the wine was that the prominent, yet well integrated, oak became more of a supporting note where as the citrus notes came forward and really made the wine feel refreshing. Oddly enough, I detected a lingering finish of kerosene; however, I can't be certain that this is due to the effect of the meal or the additional aging in my cellar. What I really enjoy about this wine is that its complexity, and a component of the general mouth feel, reminds me of good sherry.

December 5, 2007 - (13.5% vol) - drank Dec 2 -Tasting over 3 hours
Deep yellow/golden colour; noted aromas detected on the nose at some point; toasted wood, minerals (general), chalk (specific), saw dust (fleeting sensation), an undefined sweet note, and raisins(?) on the nose; smooth on the palate (smoother than the nose suggests); complex fruit on the finish with an acidity that prepares one’s mouth for the next sip. In addition, the oak on the finish was integrated like a crucial seasoning.
With a warm cheese dish the wine became fruitier on the palate, but with smoked tuna and shrimp there was a crisper backbone. Very enjoyable!
