January 11, 2020 - A very typical MArgaux, with a "feminine" character built on delicate mature fruit and subtle sweet aromas. Mature red berries, elegant cedar, leather tobacco, tea and some eucalyptus freshness in the background. The typical thinning after the first impression, an effect observed in many 1989s, overshaded by the powerful 1990s. Consider drinking up.

January 5, 2020 - Second Sunday Group: Cornas vs Côte-Rôtie (Barb's): Courtesy of MaY. Red berry fruit notes with a touch of herb and forest floor underneath. Integrated. Red berry fruit, tobacco and earth. A bit of a barnyard note with air. Just a little thin through the midpalate.

January 1, 2020 - Translucent, dark ruby and hesitant tearing in the glass
A bouquet of dark fruit. A bit of tabaco and some spices reminiscent of eucalyptus.
A wonderful delicate and refined taste of dark fruit and some chocolate. Thick dark cherry with a touch of honey.
Superb balance, and a surprising note of sweetness in the onset. Light toast and deliciously fresh wood vanilla.
    Only 12% alcohol
Fantastic start of the year 2020!

November 27, 2019 - Perfect bottle of this showing flavors of black fruits, truffles and sweet tobacco. Full and seamless texture with great opulence, subtle power and perfect balance. The finish is very fine and beautifully complex with notes of blue flowers and minerals. Still more development ahead for this beauty. 95+

(Chateau Palmer (Margaux)) And now a chance to revisit the '89 Palmer - although I confess it is a decade since I last tasted it! Poured from a magnum. An appealing, light and delicate perfume here, sweet smoke intermingled with notes of violets and thyme. It is remarkable how all three clarets poured here (Mouton, Palmer, Montrose) just don't seem fully mature yet. Supple and well defined on entry, then relaxing in the midpalate where it has a reserved and dry texture, although still with a broad presence of flavour. Savoury and lightly spiced. Stylish composition, very long, full of promise, but for my palate it still has more in the bank to give.

(Chateau Palmer Margaux) The assemblage is Cabernet Sauvignon 52%, Merlot 41%, Petit Verdot 6% and Cabernet Franc just 1%. We have clearly taken a step up in quality here. A lovely colour. A wonderful, complex and fragrant nose, with hints of fresh coffee grounds. The forepalate is rich, round and full, and although this sensation persists the midpalate is dominated by the tannins which give this wine such structure. Lots of fat, ripe fruit, yet quite elegant and perfumed with it. The tannins persist after the finish. A great wine. Needs five years at least.
