December 23, 2021 - Medicinal bouquet with mint, ripe berries, tar, mint. Smooth and juicy palate with quite a good amount of freshness, leading to a spicy finish, lasting quite a bit. Pleasant wine with a good amount of complexity, not fully harmonic in every dimension, but very enjoyable.

August 7, 2021 - 1st bottle of 3. Decanted off extremely heavy sediment. Deep tawny color - very advanced appearance. Dull nose of menthol and balsamico mingled with light roses. Very subdued dark fruit notes. Not oxidized but fading. Palate is intense and dominated by powerful balsamic notes offset by slight dark fruit flavors. This bottle is over the hill. It was well stored since release so hopefully it's an aberration. Very disappointing bottle from one of my favorite producers.

March 10, 2021 - Barolo Lunch at SanShuGong. Drank in Grassl Cru. Tasted semi-blind.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with an initial blast of vanilla oak that blows off/integrates, revealing aromas of sweet spices, dark plums, black cherries, tobacco. Developed.
On the palate, dry, medium+ acidity, high alcohol (14.5%), grippy high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of black cherries, blackberries, dark plums, tobacco, dark leather, sweet spices. Long finish.
Very good quality. Modern styled, but still enjoyable. Somehow feels fresher than the last time I had this bottle in 2017.
From the San Rocco cru in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba.

November 28, 2020 - Bouquet of medicinal notes, kirsch, grilled peppers, vanilla, undergrowth masking more fruity, floral tones. Lush, silky palate, with some toffee and coffee elements, with quite some acidity and some tannins, leaving a spicy, sweet, tannic finish.

October 7, 2020 - This is in a beautiful place, fully resolved and near peak. Plain delicious, even right after opening. No sediment.

September 9, 2020 - Gareth's Post-lockdown Piedmont (Noize): Double-decanted about two hours before it was drunk. Surprised at how modern this was - plush, with notes of spice, wood and coffee, it reminded me of a Pappy van Winkle Bourbon. That's not altogether a bad thing, given Pappy is tasty stuff, but the wine was too much like a Super Tuscan or Right Bank BDX for me to love it. Maybe this was exacerbated by drinking it alongside a Nebbiolo made in a completely different style.

August 15, 2020 - decanted 1.5 hours. this has been a consistent bottle since day one, halfway through 2 cases; fancy & exotic nose that intoxicates; effortless weight; pretty but concentrated, tannins & acids give confidence for the remainder's duration.

grilled chicken thighs; farrotto w/chanterelles & bi-color corn, guanciale

6/29/21 decanted to wide decanter. deep, dark & full throttle; in the intermediate place between young & approaching being a grown-up. great nose & earnest palate; works well w/bold flavored food. (92)

corn risotto w/chanterelles & bacon, black pepper

May 6, 2020 - Loved this. Deep and rich with a lot of vibrancy and fruit. Building complexity and very long on the finish. A strong sense of place and drinking beautifully.

April 27, 2020 - a big wine, long with some complexity - the tannins are still there so it may well improve from here
