Community Tasting Notes 5

April 4, 2024 - PnP at Heirloom. I didn't pick up on any of the smoke notes that others observe. It has the fascinating combination of low alcohol but relatively ripe characteristics: 12.7% but solid mid+ body. Quite interesting and would be curious to follow in a couple years.

January 26, 2024 - In broad agreement with Nutty08; this is perhaps one of the worst wines I've tasted, to the point that we struggled to finish a glass each and tossed the rest. TBH, $75 for this bottle was a crime - it simply shouldn't have been released. The nose was distinctly odd, and the wine was quite astringent. No redeeming factors and just the glass gave me a headache.

October 24, 2023 - Well, this is awkward. Do I call it flawed when the winery chooses to release it? It’s fair to point out that I don’t usually open Cameron this young but this wine has an odd soot or “morning after fireplace” character that I’ve never experienced in OR Pinot before. It’s light on the nose (but there) almost with a hint of cinnemon. On the finish soot note just dominates ans it’s quite distracting. There’s great fruit mixed in but can’t say I rexommmend this. Drinkable but not good.

FYI I found the ‘20 Clos electrique white very enjoyable.

May 17, 2023 - On the nose, cherry fruit and some savory notes, but sadly also a fair amount of smoke. On the palate I was hopeful it was Cameron reduction, but this is smoke taint. Earth and smoke. The producer and vineyard are capable of so much more. It is not as bad as the '20 Clos Electrique red, which was tough to drink, but it's still very distracting. Is the wine drinkable? yes. Is it likely the best wine he could make in the situation? Likely. Do I want to drink my other several bottles of this, no. The wines from Cameron in '20 have been disappointing to me on many levels. They are objectively a shadow of their potential, and I am sure it is hard a a vintner to choose whether to produce or declassify wine in a vintage like this. It may not be financially feasible for them to do so, but as a consumer, I feel cheated buying my normal allocation. Bummer.
