May 6, 2024 - Lovely Zin. On the elegant side for Zin. Sappy and fruity, with a mix of blues and blacks, and red fruit highlights. Nice finish. Solid Zin in a forward style.
May 1, 2024 - My favorite of these 7 vintages of Black Chicken graciously offered by John at BP tonight. Stands out because its beautiful acidity balances the black pepper and berry extraction, elegant and rich, classic iron fist in a silk glove. This will improve over the next two years, and drink well for 5. Duck confit wuth cherries might be a perfect match.
May 1, 2024 - Second wine of the second tranche of BC's brought by John tonight. Mid garnet in the glass, somewhat muted nose. Palate of more red than black fruit with increased acidity and decent spice so this one will roll on for quite a while......
February 10, 2024 - Not impressed 1st night, 2nd night much better
February 6, 2024 - Ahh, the black chicken. Big, rich and huge. And kinda wound up for all that too.
January 16, 2024 - Always a favorite
November 22, 2023 - A really fine BC.
November 13, 2023 - Totally love it! Even better the second night.
October 30, 2023 - Deep dark purple garnet in color; almost opaque. Full, forward, & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of dark cherries, blackberries & plums with overtones of briary & earthy notes, spices, herbs, pepper, dark cocoa, minerals & a hint of oak/vanilla in the background. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced, & smooth textured, lush, ripe fruit flavors of dark cherries, blackberries and mulberries with spices, herbs, minerals, dark cocoa & a hint of oak/vanilla. Lingering finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended but has the structure to continue developing with additional aging.
September 22, 2023 - 14.8% abv. Dark ruby, plus aromatics. Ripe plum, raspberry, cloves, mint and white pepper. Pure, intense, deep, and long. Really singing at this early stage - pure Napa Zin goodness!
