April 5, 2021 - Excellent. Very dry. Rather austere, but I like it.

January 28, 2021 - Light citrus and brioche. Pretty sushi lunch wine.

May 30, 2020 - Reminds me of eating east coast oyster with squeezed lemon. There is only a very light touch of brioche. Super crisp and mineral. Works really well as an apertif. A very solid glass of champagne for $55

(NV LASSAIGNE BdB) Lassaigne Dear Friends, With the holidays approaching, it’s time to think Champagne and I don’t mean commercial Champagne. If you ask around in the nooks and crannies of Paris and beyond - most of the best artisan wine shop owners will lead you in the direction of Jacques Lassaigne. He is like the new Pierre Peters before TT brought the house to prominence a decade ago. I tasted this wine the day it arrived in Paris earlier in the month and immediately set out to find as much as I could. If this is a pre-curser to the backbone that 2004 has provided in Champagne, there is a lot to look forward to. Not since the 1996 laced NV cuvees has this level performed so brilliantly (and I use the term with regard to all of its definitions) and even last year’s 2002 stocked cuvee is not as successful. Lassaigne’s “Vignes de Montgueux” is not only one of the most talked about examples of boutique Champagne in the underground but the buzz is starting to boil over into the Michelin scene as well - I noticed it on the wine list of at least three Michelin starred restaurants on my last trip. Produced in one of Champagne’s last stronghold’s of tradition (Troyes/Montgueux), the hallmark of this producer is a fine, cashmere bead and one of the freshest aromatics of ginger and wild flowers around. This signature texture comes from an extended “prise de mousse”, something the bigger houses have little time for but tasting a wine like this side-by-side with a more rugged/angular young Champagne can be eye-opening. The palate is absolutely pure with the most accurate reflection of site-place available in this genre. Instead of being reverse crafted in the cellar for a signature style (as many of the highest rated commercial Champagnes are), this wine is a precise and cutting bottle of joy that is the truest result of the vintage stock it comes from - even if there is vast variation from year to year. That is the point. Jacques Lassaigne is one of the new breed in Champagne that are slowly changing the nature of the game and I can’t think of a better house to support as the haves and have-nots in this region are about as vastly separated as in any wine producing area of the world. Help support a true artistic voice that produces sparkling examples full of life, breadth and depth and the wine in the bottle may just return the favor. A major find. Please note: This is the new disgorgement that has a preponderance of 2004 juice in the stock – it is not the one you see listed in the US (it was only recently released from the cellar and will be quite a bit more expensive than last year’s version due to Dollar/Euro devaluation - see current pricing in the UK and mainland Europe that have the new lot) ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from he winery cellar - we cannot get another shipment at anything close to this price. This new lot is VERY RARE and already fully allocated at the winery: NV Jacques Lassaigne “Les Vignes De Montgueux” Blanc de Blanc (2004) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ2340
