May 3, 2019 - Enjoyable now, and while not complex this was managable and compact with orange marmelade and apricot notes. Consistent across two bottles.

April 20, 2019 - Nicely mature with god vivacious. There was an intriguing orange/grapefruit marmalade thing here. It an epic vintage but lovely.

April 16, 2019 - Drank from a half bottle. Our notes were very consistent with many of the others here, especially in relation to the 'orange flavours'. Marmalade in abundance. An extremely long finish, and the beauty of D'Yquem to offer a sweet wine that is so balanced and never icky.

Drank with JO and SH in London

March 30, 2019 - Wine Monuments Man Chapter 4 (Berens am Kai 1 star Restaurant): 1967 was supposed and we recognised later it was 97 so my diasappointment was unfounded. Because Yquem 1967 was my first run to the wine heaven.

This wine was too alcoholic, one dimensional and broad in the finish. Not the elgance and finesse Yquem can reach sometimes. 92-93

March 15, 2019 - Birthday dinner No. 1 at La Piquette - the '97 d'Yquem was, when first tasted years ago, probably the vintage that made me understand that d'Yquem is not like any other Sauternes. It's been well over a decade since I last tasted this, and it's simply beautiful, notes of tropical fruits and caramel, a wonderful accompaniment to La Piquette's Gâteau à l'Orange. There may not be many better ways to celebrate a birthday.

(Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes) This wine has a rich, golden hue, as might be expected! The nose is just fabulous; there is evident richness here, in the shape of some smoky botrytis, but what really sets the wine apart is the beautiful, crystal-like clarity it possesses. This characteristic carries through on the palate, which has a fine, cool purity and freshness, presented in a seemingly paradoxical fashion, as it is intertwined with great richness and a creamy vanilla seam which opens out, broadening across the palate. Wow! An amazing texture, with bright botrytis flavour and high quality candied fruits. I think this is an exquisite wine, and the lingering flavour affords plenty of time to reflect on this. And it will go for years yet. I find this much more impressive than my previous tasting in November 2004.

(Y'quem) The '97 was full rich and packed with botrytis. Little less focused than the '90 but still great.

(Chateau d'Yquem Sauternes) A hot vintage, with slow onset of botrytis. Earliest recorded harvest, on September 4th. Six tries, with better botrytis later on. Showing a good, more golden hue. This is more like it; and expressive and impressive nose, with ripe, crystalline honey fruit and loads of botrytis character. Pure, impressive, balanced. This has lovely poise and is quite delicious. Creamy-oily texture but not over-the-top, tremendously rich finish and a great length. Correct acidity. A big, structured, yet seductive wine; this will go for decades.
