March 11, 2023 - This is now starting to show a little aged funk around the edges while retaining its core of densely packed fruit. In fact it's denser than I remember it ever being. The fruit still has plenty of youthful sweetness in the middle but around the edges it's more of a patina of dehydrated blackberry and blueberry skins with some smoky, gravely elements. And it is demonstrating pretty well what makes 2005 so great, in that it's just starting to show aged complexity but also fresher and richer than many of the vintages that followed.

April 24, 2022 - Good: earthy, slightly rustic Pernand 1er, sandy tannins still assertive. Drink up, I think; fruit stamina to my sensibilities is weakening.

August 29, 2021 - Medium ruby. Subdued palate. The bright sour cherry acidity palate profile takes over the balance somewhat, and the overall sense is that this is awkwardly austere, lacking freshness and body. Tannins still in evidence but are very fine and add some interesting complexity - mineral skein backdrop and a moderately long final.

Got the feeling this was too tight and perhaps too early but for some reason only had a single bottle of this.

August 7, 2021 - As previous note. Just past peak but very pleasant. Had with crab penne.

June 27, 2021 - Excellent Pinot Noir, precise and focused. Perhaps not as immediately fragrant as the last bottles, but still in a very good place at the moment, freshness seemingly intact after all this bottle age. Drink or hold for a couple more years, but I would not expect further evolution. Delicious!

June 18, 2021 - Fresh as the proverbial daisy still, red cherry here underpinned by real structure. Opened and poured at cellar temperature, much swishing for around 20 minutes and then the first sip - really nice. A proper bargain from the Wine Society and a decent price too. Not the most beguiling pinot noir I have ever had, but it ticked the boxes for the evening. Drink dates on CT are conservative if you have a bottle of good provenance, this felt like it would keep until 2025.

May 10, 2021 - 16 years on: still fresh. Doesn’t feel faded. Raspberry then cherry light tannins. Light oak. A little leather and earth.
    Rather short on the finish
Great value for money from The Wine Society (UK).
Needs to be served cool ~ 15C to get best out of the bottle (it’s a lot flatter at 20C).

May 2, 2021 - Did not feel 16 years old at all, far from it. Keep 2-3 more years if you want to (excellent provenance on the one I opened). Beautiful wine, perhaps a small amount of roughness around the edges, but time has softened this to a lovely place.

April 21, 2021 - Still features the dense fruit of the vintage, perhaps showing even more richness than it did on release if my note from then is any indication. The crushed rock element is also at least as bold as it's ever been with some intensely powdery tannins to go along with it. I'd give this at least a few more years for that to smooth out though it may take even longer before any aged character comes out. This still feels pretty young.

March 29, 2021 - This wine has moved into a very nice place - lovely balance built around signature Pernand earthiness and density. An unusually satisfying mouthful with dark-ish red fruit, demonstrative but not assertive tannins, and sufficient body to pair with red meat. The ample finish features a streak of sharp acidity that's unusual in a Burgundy, but works interestingly as a counterpoint to the pithy tannins. I suppose this wine may possibly continue to improve, but, for me, it's open season on my remaining bottles. Really very good.
