May 26, 2019 - A Few Wines with BBQ (Chez Whitehead - Northbrook IL): From magnum. Tasted several times through the day. Charming red cherry aromas with sweet and savory spice. Slightly backward palate to start, then more forthcoming an hour+ later with very elegant tannins. Just barely entering its peak drinking window, this will drink well for at least another decade.

June 1, 2009 - very nice-very young-dark purple, much deeper color than expected. Bouquet was great and after an hour or two is opened up beautifully. A lot of bang for the buck

(L & A Lignier MSD LES CHAFFOTS) Late Dear Friends, A few deals arrived late tonight that are quite interesting - all are worth a look but they are not for the shy. These are full-impact wines but they have eccentricities and a unique character that separates them from the norm. All are directly from the source with perfect provenance: 1999 Tenuta di Trenoro (Toscana) IGT(AG90) 2003 Rotllan Torra Tirant (Priorat) 1.5lt Quite rare in this format - one of the more regal wines coming out of Priorat... 2005 L & A Lignier Morey-St-Denis "Les Chaffots" 375ml (BH89-92) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy8699 Spain9820 Burg7055

(CHAFFOTS LA Lignier MSD) 2005 Bourgogne Dear Friends, For those of you waiting for this wine, it's here (or better yet, "for those of you that have been emailing me since last summer to see if we have any", it's here). Terres Dorees produces many widely distributed cuvee's but it is this micro-parcel of Pinot Noir that many of his fans wait for and it is not easy to come by. This is one of those "only in warm vintage" wines and we skipped 2004 entirely. If you tried the 2002 and 2003, you can imagine what the 2005 is like. From Brun's personal vineyard, planted at his domaine, he's been waiting for a vintage like 2005 to come around for his Pinot Noir to maximize its potential and the year gave him just what he was looking for. The 2005 success throughout Beaujolais and Burgundy has been well documented and this qausi-cult wine should make for eccentric and (dare I say) actual ripe drinking in the near to mid-term. Not for those seeking New World Pinot - this is a strict terroir devotee and the wines reflect their light-bodied/low-alcohol sense of place to an extreme. Brun believes this is his finest wine in many years - I'm sure many of you are more than willing to experiment with the fruit of his labor. Brun-heads, here you go.... VERY RARE in 2005. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY at this price directly from the cellars at JP Brun (will be ready for pick-up in a few weeks): 2005 Domaine des Terres Dorees Bourgogne (Jean-Paul Brun) Oh yeah....we also have a small shipment of this ready for pick up in a few weeks: 2005 Lucie et Auguste Lignier Morey St. Denis "Les Chaffots" (375ml) (BH89-92) EXTREMELY LIMITED Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg7310 Burg7320

(L.A. LIGNIER M.S.D. LES CHAFFOTS) 2005 Burgundy Dear Friends, When Hubert Lignier’s estate was divided, it left an opportunity for the next generation to improve on the already fine quality that this house was known for (Lignier was made famous in the US a few decades ago by an unknown wine writer named Robert Parker jr.). Through a complex web of inheritance, trial and tribulation and family tragedy this new estate was born and the 2005s are shockingly strong. This is essentially Lignier’s 2005 stable of wines with a new label designation of L & A Lignier (Lucie & Auguste Lignier). I cannot recommend this set of wines highly enough and I’m sure you will find them to be complex and ponderous examples of their vineyard sites. They’ve been highly acclaimed by Allen Meadows, David Schildknecht and others but the beauty of the wines is in their transparent but powerful expressions that should reward those that cellar them or open them early to enjoy their youthful fruit. I’m torn to even print the scores as most of you can certainly look them up on your own, but I know you will ask so I’ve done so below. Let’s give this set of wines the credence they deserve without score-chasing - please read the verbiage for a better indication of the style. All are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for relative value at the top end of each category in 2005 All are directly from the source with perfect provenance - NOT VIA THE GREY MARKET All are EXTREMELY LIMITED - please let us know your interest at your earliest convenience (this is not Lignier-Michelot or George Lignier - this set may be listed as Hubert Lignier or just Lignier in the WA or other) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Bourgogne Passeoutgrains (WA/NR)(BH/NR) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Fixin “Les Champs Vosger” (WA/NR)(BH/NR) (this is really lovely) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Morey St Denis (I really like this wine) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Gevrey Chambertin “Les Suevrees” (WA/NR)(BH/NR) (this should be long-lived - lots of depth and mineral-rich, elegant but powerful fruit - very hard to find) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Morey St Denis “Les Chaffots” 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Morey St Denis 1er (VV) “Romain Lignier” 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Chambolle Musigny “Les Baudes” 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) Gevrey Chambertin “aux Combottes” (this is not George Lignier) 2005 Lignier (Lucie & August) “Clos de la Roche” Grand Cru Please give us your maximum number of each and we will allocate accordingly Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg5901 Burg5902 Burg5903 Burg5904 Burg5905 Burg5906 Burg5907 Burg5908 Burg5909
