    January 19, 2024 - Medel tegel/rubin. Tunna gardiner (13 procent).

January 12, 2023 - BYOB at my place Ulysses Colin, 2002 Keller Hubacker, 2013 Roulot Mersault Virules, 1982 & 1996 Cosd’Estournel, 1987 Forman Cab, 2002 Chevillion NSG Vaucrains, 2002 Roumier MSD Bussiere, 1999 Yquem and Bereche Brut Reserve.

1 of 6 opened @3:00 served @8:00 deep ruby core with aging rim. Pretty tight nose even after two hours, put into a decanter. At serving still surprisingly tight nose, not so the palate… deep layers of dark cherry fruit, earthy notes and spice, tannins still adding structure without hiding the fruit, spice and mineral notes add complexity. Balanced with nice texture and persistent finish. Early maturity should only improve over the next decade or two.

August 10, 2022 - Tasted at the Cherwell Boathouse in Oxford. Drank over 2 hours, P&P.

My first Roumier MSD, even though I am familiar with his incredible wines from Chambolle. Honestly, I was disappointed given the Domaine this comes from - it is a well made wine and everything came together nicely, but there was no effortlessness that distinguishes many of Roumier's wines. Decent fruit and balancing acidity but not too much complexity; not sure how much up-side it will have with age.

Put it this way, I should have gone for Roumier's village Chambolle instead. Also, at the QPR, I reckon there are better MSDs around. Still, it's good to have tried this wine even if I don't think I will revisit this one soon.

February 26, 2022 - Twenty years anniversary for this wine. Deep amber red with a quite broad white rim. Seems like it's age. Very mature nose of mushrooms (fresh!), dry wood, some prune-like fruit underneath the very tertiary tones. Lacks fruit on the nose. Sweet attack on the palate, quite surprising given the fruitless nose. Fine nuances of strawberries and dark, sweet cherries, combined with fine grained tannins and high acidity. The wine is in fact nicely balanced through the whole tasting curve, ending with a sweet fruit finish. Aftertaste is sweet and filled with tertiary mushroom-like aromas. Impressive length. This was much better in the mouth than on the nose. Probably over the top, but what the hell! this drink just wonderful now. How fun it is to experience wines like this. Anybody in doubt of the aging power of good Burgundy (from good producers)?

January 14, 2022 - A small gathering - 02 Lignier MSD VV, 82 and 86 Mouton, 96 Giacosa Asili (Undisclosed location in McLean, VA): Expressive nose displaying polished candied fruit, strawberry candy, cherry soda, iron, sweet spice and earth. Beautifully mature palate, finely layered sweet red fruit, silky and fluid, medium acidity, earthy mineral, and a long sweet red fruit driven finish with iron and sweet spices at the end. This is drinking well but I prefer the H. Lignier MSD VV.
