Community Tasting Notes 15

July 22, 2021 - Still going strong after 15 years. All the profile of a 20 year old Bordeaux. No greenness or vegetable patch notes that Chinon is often associated with. Needs lots of air time to fill out. Elegant core of acidity with fully resolved tannins. A favorite of the blind tasting group although everyone was in Bordeaux not Loire.

April 20, 2020 - Opened one hour in advance. Loamy aroma of red fruit with a touch of barnyard. Rich, intense black fruit and herbal flavors. Tart berry and mineral finish.

Solid backbone, some complexity, great staying power. The Baudry domaine wines may be drinkable earlier than the designate wines, but they last just about as long. At 13 years this is going strong and may not have even reached its peak.

December 30, 2017 - Just lovely and lively. Plenty of acidity to balance resolved tannins and tobacco, dark fruits and a funkiness that screams a mature Chinon. I'm glad I have plenty more of this as I suspect it will continue to evolve given good acidity and amount of fruit still present after 11 years. And to think this is the basic Domaine bottling. Wow!

March 29, 2013 - No Grezeaux in this vintage..it is in this bottling. Two weeks ago at the David Bowler tasting i asked matthieu how this vintage was drinki now and he said it was drinking great. He was correct but i would have waited on this five years. Very good classic gravel site chinon with a little more oomph in this vintage. Great fruit and acidity and tobacco

March 18, 2011 - after the Franc de P; seems riper on the nose but lower abv, touch horse fur, bit bituminous on the palate, much harder tannins and palate is not as well balanced, more awkward on the back pal and less length. Very enjoyable though a lesser wine
