Community Tasting Notes 2

August 16, 2022 - Cork smouldered upon opening, unusual for such a young wine. Storage? Ruby with thin brick rim, sediments. I taste this very rarely so not that familiar with it. Starting out earthy, dates and figs, with air more dates and that sweet raisiny blueberries and liquorice aged Tempranillo fruit nose and palate. Fresh acidity, softer tannins, oak still evident, but quite dry finish. Lacks some fruit on the palate. Not a bad wine, but just not sitting that well together. Not tasted this vintage before, so do not know if it has seen faulty storage. Cork may suggest so. Yet should come fairly directly from Riscal this bottle. 89

August 31, 2019 - Magnum bottle popped for kids party. Well received. Long cork came out nicely. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour with large garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clena, medium+ intensity, with aromas of integrated milky vanilla oak, sweet earth, old wine cellar, dark red cherries, red plums, musky leather. Developed.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14.5%), grippy velvet high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet dark red plums, dark red cherries, blackberry background, earth, musky leather, integrated oak, old spice. Savoury soy and dark herbal touch with hours of air. Long finish.
Very good quality. Drinking at peak now in magnum format. May not be so lucky in a regular size. Modern style Rioja but still very enjoyable.
Made by Bodegas de Los Herederos del Marques de Riscal. 85% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. 20 months in French oak barriques.
Marques de Riscal is one of the few producers in Rioja that has special dispensation to include Cabernet Sauvignon in its Rioja wines.
