April 26, 2022 - En-Primeur campaign for the 2021 vintage; 4/25/2022-4/29/2022 (Bordeaux): Perfumed, sweet spice, not really any tertiary characteristics, plums, black fruit compote (blackcurrant, a little black cherry, and touches of cassis), very slight saline notes. Incredibly enticing nose. Juicy, savoury but with a sweet fruit core, talc textured drying tannins persist with the fruit long. Incredible on the palate as well. Marvellous

April 24, 2022 - 48x 1990 (37x Bdx, 6x Napa, 5x others): I was looking forward to revisit this legend as my previous bottle seemed in an awkward stage, not showing much. Unfortunately, this bottle was similar. Little expression, little excitement. Better just wait a few years.
TN: Not very expressive nose. Ripe dark fruits, slightly too ripe probably for my taste. On the palate much more open, fine dark berries, red berries, herbs, minerality. This Margaux is in this rather dumb phase, with the fruit retracted, not really open, no tertiary aromas showing. Hard to judge the potential on this. I hope to catch an open and singing bottle, this one is not one. Just based on the pleasure it delivered today, it was at best a 91/92 pts experience.
Decanting: Quick double decant three+ hours prior to the tasting to remove sediment. I‘m not sure if a long decanting would have helped as with the last bottle no amount of decanting changed anything. -

April 9, 2022 - Bordeaux masterclass at Summa 2022 (Weingut Alois Lageder, Margreid, South Tyrol): A wine with a personality, which is not easy to pin down. On the one hand this is authoritative with dark fruits, stemmy and spicy, earth, some flinty notes and (surprisingly) still a discernible amount of burnt oak. On the other hand this is also charming with its sweetness and pronounced florality. In the mouth the wine is more intense and creamier textured than the Sociando Mallet. However, it feels not as energetic and there is already considerable tertiary development (licorice, caramel) on the finish, which makes me wonder, if its drinking-window is slowly beginning to close, very slowly. Nonetheless, as it stands now this is a marvelous drink.

March 5, 2022 - This went from a very good 95 point wine to near perfection over 3 hours of drinking. This is well into four figures a bottle at present and it is wasted without letting it have sufficient time to come alive. The nose warrants a 100 points, with plum, blackcurrant, cedar and violet prominent. Tobacco is prominent on the palate with the fruit with impeccable depth and balance. The finish pushes 60 seconds with the only thing impeding the perfect score is a slightly over harsh tannic edge towards the end. 97+
