January 15, 2021 - [Blind] Initially showing quite heavy and intense, yielding to more classic although still dense. Think dark chocolate covered cherries. This has another 30 years to develop and unwind. This reminds me more of Haut-Brion with all its red cedar spice. Not obviously floral in the stereotypical Margaux fashion, more of a sort of pine resin. Unresolved tannin. A big and youthful wine still, although pretty content drinking one now.

December 26, 2020 - Post-Christmas Dinner at home with friends (At home): Popped and poured, because I wasn't sure if it needed (or indeed, would survive) decanting. Out of the bottle, the nose is a gorgeous, complex bouquet of cut summer flowers, ripe red berries, aged leather and shaded forest floor. Medium bodied, the fruit has a vibrancy and precision of a wine half its age, with layers of bright red fruit giving it an intense, uplifting finish. But this was just the first 15 minutes. Later, what remained was just a nice but somewhat muted old Bordeaux. Over the last 10 years or so, this wine has brought much pleasure. And this was the last bottle.

December 20, 2020 - Not at the level of a spellbinding bottle of this wine a few months ago. This time it showed a little more structure than flamboyance and had a tiny nod of Pauillac aspects with some pencil shaving, cigar box. Sweetened up a bit with time in the decanter and the last glass was the best.

December 13, 2020 - Perfect dark garnet , with very little fading at the rims. Blackberry, blueberry, tobacco and cedar nose, with hints of raspberry and mushrooms. Very dense on the palate, with lots of umami giving it that onctous mouthfeel, complemented by that vanilla touch that remains in old wines when high class oak has been used. Very well balanced, with noteable acidity and very fine and elegant tannins. Taste lingers for minutes on your tongue. Very fine plus.

November 4, 2020 - WOTN in a lovely line-up and this bottle was practically perfect so not sure why I am being stingy and not giving it full marks. Opened two hours before serving and decanted half an hour before we started getting stuck in. The sexiest red berry, umami like sesame oil qualities, just wow! There were several attacks on the palate with an endless and seamless finish. Despite so many good to great bottles that night the Margaux stood there like a mountain and just said you ain't going to pass me today. Sensational and if this was representative and all good bottles out there are like this I would be a big buyer. But with this age I feel we might have been particularly lucky with how this showed.
