  January 11, 2010 - This is my first Madeira. This wine has distinctive sherry notes -- like the ocean mixed with olive brine and nuts, minus the salt -- but not a whole lot of them. It is more raisiny than anything. That raisiny characteristic is weak too. In sum, this wine is boring and basic. There's nothing seriously wrong with it, however; I found it mildly pleasant.
  
  Edit: Over time, I've come to believe that I was far too negative about this wine. I've long felt that sherry offers one of the best values in the wine world. This wine tastes like one a good bottle of a darker, sweeter sherry style. It's yummy, balanced, and complex.

  August 28, 2009 - My first encounter with madeira. Gotta say I wasn't blown away. Felt like a watered down port with some raisiny notes and dried figs but ending kinda weak.
