October 19, 2012 - Opened up and decanted for approx 60 min. Cooled it a bit to 18c. I would say it is is perfectly matured right now. Still some really nice fine tannins - good but balanced fruit and and a really soft and charming sweetness in the background. Definitely some smoke though not overwhelming. Feels really nice in the mouth. What keeps the rating down a bit is that it all ends fairly quickly and the complexity could be better. But all in all a very nice Syrah!

February 6, 2012 - Clear and deep ruby in color. Smoke, beef jerkey, tomato and kreosote tar on the nose. The intensity of the nose is medium plus to pronounced, but after a while, some of the smokier and gamier elements do blow off. The nose is developed and not showing much fruit at this point. The palate is dry, with medium acidity and alcohol. The tannins are medium plus to pronounced, and the body, flavor intensity and finish are medium. The palate shows some black fruit, and is more approachable than the nose. This is the smokiest wine I've ever had, not really in a bad way, but in a perplexing, intriguing sort of way. Much as I wanted to like it, overall I think this is an unbalanced, overly rustic wine which may be past its prime. Drink now.

September 25, 2011 - Big ripe syrah from a ripe hot vintage. Pleasant aromas that give you the indication that this is a big high alcohol wine from the get go. Palate is well balanced, but very ripe, and the alcohol is noticeable. Some nice flavors but I think the over-ripeness of this wine detracts from it's upside. (86-87 range).

March 4, 2010 - I enjoyed more than K. Mocha and meat flavors. Good finish and round mouthfeel. Tannins not overwhelming.

December 31, 2009 - Not an over-the-top shiraz, but an excellent showing from SA; not too heavy, but nice coffee and toast - very good tannins. Drank at the right time.
