October 16, 2023 - Good cork, strong ruby color without significant ambering at the rim. This is tired. A little lift from VA at first, then raspberries and dried black figs. Some chestnutty oxidative notes. Maybe some gamyness but it's not in focus. The palate is coming apart - there's a short moment of fruit sweetness at first, then the acidity pokes out. Drink now.

May 31, 2023 - Very southern Rhone. Tobacco, garrigue, a bit of sour cherry fruit. A bit short on the finish and the acidity is a bit hard/biting. I think this wine is on the fade, a bit more vibrancy would have helped that bite. Still nice, but drink up

January 5, 2023 - Why did I open it today? Two reasons. I drank a 2005 vintage a few months ago and gave it was excellent, great and unique. That's why I wanted to check how different 2001 is. The second reason is that a few weeks ago I drank 2000 Domain de Vieux Lazaret ChdP and was a bit disappointed, so I wanted to see if the age of the wine matters here.

Yes this wine is definitely different then 05, but the same time much better then 00 from Lazaret. The answer is obvious.
    Age matters
    Producer matters
This La Nerthe is still delicious, but not unique like 05. I would say it's classic like many other good ChdP wines. It has lovely smell of wet forest, tobacco, minerals, red fruits, but nothing else.
Taste has lovely flavors of red cherry mixed with milk chocolate and minerals, but nothing else. Soft tannins and acidity of course. Way too short finish with spice and chocolate ( nice!).

January 1, 2023 - Brief decant but super early on; drinking well,

May 28, 2022 - This was a pop and pour, and I got to watch it develop for about an hour. Dark garnet and clear. There's a bit of a hard edge to the menthol and game inflected black fruit which never really goes away. This is only about 1/2 Grenache, and it shows - it's firm and rugged (though not as rugged as the 05 Cadettes from a week ago). Needs a couple of hours in a decanter or 5-7 more years, but I'm unsure if the Grenache will ever sweeten up the wine.
