November 22, 2020 - beautiful... unfortunately none available in the US right now or I would have bought some more... a robust Barolo, with plenty of structure to carry the fruit and spice... very very enjoyable right now... figure its in ten year period of peak
August 20, 2020 - classic old school Barolo... and will benefit from another 10 years in cellar, but great now after about 3 hours in decanter... found G. Borgogno when buying some 1960's Barolo a decade ago, and have been enjoying him since... I'm sure the wine make is different but seems like the style has been retained... trad'l and able to age endlessly

This wine was in such a sweet spot. This showed a lot of typical Barolo characteristics....of course, all well integrated with aging. But the nose had such a great black licorice/allsorts licorice aroma. Just lovely.
June 15, 2016 - Past peak and somewhat diluted but fairly complex and great finish. Good acidity
January 17, 2016 - Lively and youthful looking. Nose of earthy cherry and roses. Medium translucent garnet. Best after 3-4 hours double decanted. Great rich round flavor with cherry, huge licorice and rose petals. Gorgeous.
June 10, 2015 - A disappointing effort, especially considering the winemakers pedigree and great vintage. Everything about this wine was medium. The colour was too light, belying lack of fruit backbone to back up the acidity. On the nose it was quite pleasant with some nice earthiness and a touch of leather but the flavours just couldn't follow up. Acidity was too high, even if you're expecting a 14 year old Barolo to have a good amount. It just didn't come together and even fell apart slightly after being decanted less than an hour. I've tasted many Borgogno's (some 50+ year old), this was an off year for this producer and I especially can't recommend it price-adjusted.
February 8, 2014 - This Barolo was polished, smooth, and elegant. The Tannins are subdued like a much older Barolo and I would say this wine is at its peak even though it is quite young for a Barolo. It was nice when first opened, was decanted and went through a bitter phase for maybe an hour, and then opened up to be very enjoyable with a dinner of bone marrow appetizer and osso bucco. Good structure and finish, fading fruit and tannins.
December 17, 2013 - Drank at Eataly. Served a little too cold but opened up. Chocolate and cherry nose. Mild flavors but nothing overwhelming.
November 1, 2013 - Friday Night Double Blind Tasting $40+ (Bin 75): Cloudy brownish crimson; sandalwood, softer dark cherry, menthol, tar; some orange, soy, softer and more delicate at this stage, sour cherry lingers; good not great.
