Community Tasting Notes 5

December 8, 2018 - Needs about 3 hours to open up. Good regional varietal, dark chocolate, licorice and purple fruits. Big wine, feels bigger than its 14.5%. In its window, it wont improve but will hold a couple years yet. Drink up if you have any.

    September 8, 2017 - I told my wife this was a 5.... 5 year old? No, '05

This feels as if it has at least another 10 years...

Pepper is late emerging, more white than black. Cassis, definitely, supple tannins, any oak now well integrated, a joy to drink

Looking back to the cellar door, I can just about see how current release wines could develop this way, but this is an extremely pleasant surprise.

March 12, 2016 - The wine looks purple colored. There is moderate sediment in the bottle. It smells like fig. It tastes like honey.

    September 13, 2015 - awesome integrated syrah
tasted young and fresh, not like a 10 year old vintage
if all australian wines tasted like this I would drink more

November 28, 2008 - I found the tannins and alcohol in this wine to be overpowering to the point of distraction. Exposure to air over a three hour period, didn't seem to help much. There is some underlying fruit there, but it just isn't what you would expect from an Australian Shiraz. Definately too young to be consumed at this point, hopefully a few years will do it justice.

(FOOTPRINT Penny's Hill Shiraz) Footprint Dear Friends, This is one of my favorite wines from South Australia year in and year out and the 2005 is a spectacular example of a big presence that still retains a regal breed and sense of class. This wine is usually one of the finest of its type and, in 2005, it is at the top once again. From a small yield of a dozen rows that are very densely planted, this wine provides sensory summersaults to your palate and nasal passages with a beautiful melange of spice and fruit tones that are well worth the price to partake. With success comes scarcity and this will be the most difficult Footprint yet to acquire - only 300-400 cases were made and the continuing pressure from Asia (combined with a weak dollar) has more and more of the highest scoring wine headed in that direction instead of ours (Hong Kong’s alcohol tax dismissal yesterday is only going to add to the frenzied pace that the residents of Hong Kong are buying at). The result is that most retailers in the US are only getting one or two 6-packs of the 2005 Footprint (versus 5-10 in the past). We’ve tried our best to source as much as possible but this is our only parcel - we cannot get an additional shipment. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED EXTREMELY LIMITED - this parcel is as direct from the source as you will find in the US: 2005 Penny’s Hill “Footprint” Shiraz McLaren Vale PHV (rows 15-27) Please give us your maximum number and we will allocate accordingly Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Aus8122
