January 6, 2010 - A cloudy, coppery orange, it's a near match for the hue of peach nectar, just not quite so rich and dense to the eye. Likewise, the wine is loaded with peach and apple skin aromas and cidery nuances, which lead to a long, mineral stained finish. With air, more tertiary aromas of sandalwood, saffron and floral tea emerge, along with an intense leesiness that reminds me of the sweetness of fresh-baked whole wheat bread. Though not as tannic as some other extended skin contact wines, Paolo Bea's "Rusticum" for instance, the wine still has a definite textural component that gently grips and undulates across the palate.

July 30, 2009 - Orange Sunshine (skin-fermented white wines) (La Ciccia, San Francisco): Somewhat cloudy. High acidity. Initially difficult, but man did this open up with time in the glass. Layers of flavors, and just great purity to the fruit. My favorite of the flight. (tasted blind)

August 13, 2008 - Natural Wines of Italy (Jug Shop, San Francisco, CA): A touch reduced? (odd for these 'hyper-oxidized' wines) Almost patchouli like nose with incense and mineral notes. Really wild aromatics. Very deep and young tasting, almost monolithic at times. Some vitamin pill flavors as well as orange and gravel. This was tight with a talc-y texture. Seems in desperate need of some time in bottle or decanter. Really unique stuff, but in a closed spot now?

(Movia Lunar 8.) Light medium cloudy orange color; smoky, tart orange, cantelope, cherry pie and nutmeg nose; a little tight, tart orange, orange melon, tart apricot palate with soft texture; medium finish 90+ pts. (Ribolla Gialla, from 65 yr old vines; whole grape clusters are placed in barrels. The wine is never pressed off the skins or racked, and after 7 months the free-run juice is bottled unfiltered.)

(Movia Lunar) No two ways about it, this wine is orange. The cloudy, light-orange color seems perfectly reasonable once you pick up the glass and smell gorgeous orange blossoms and wet stones. In the mouth, it is silky, seductive, and utterly confusing—its flavors tend toward alpine strawberry, orange blossoms, and other white flowers before some stony character begins to grip the extremely long finish. This unique wine will likely age and develop for decades. Fully biodynamic and aged on the lees in large, Slavonian oak casks, it was never fined, filtered, or racked. Hot Picks

(Movia Lunar) This was some loony wine. In the same vein as Gravner and Radikon but more importantly it was cheaper. Around $40 a bottle retail. Great balance and purity and that classical orange-natural wine nose of spice, orange zest and loads of minerals. The texture was nice and pillowy. Very nice and extremely interesting wine but not a must-buy. It actually needs to be drunk on the chillier side as when it warmed the alchohol really peeked through.
