Community Tasting Notes 9

February 5, 2010 - My experience was obviously different from the rest of you - I found it surprisingly interesting and complex given the price. Light and dry with hints of cherry but there was a "cigar box" and possibly orangey aspect to it as well. Will buy more.

December 17, 2009 - This wine is terrific for the money, drinks well right now. Wonderful earthy nose with evolving fruit. On the palate, great acidity, medium bodied, fruit and earth. Moderate finish. Comes together well, notes from about 4 bottles consumed over the past few months. Has the chops to lay down for a bit, but don't forget about it!

November 21, 2009 - This is a taut, precise and terroir driven bottle of wine. The color is a brilliant clear rouge leaning ever so slightly to purple. On the nose, it is cool and fresh, with lots of wild cherry. Nice pure pinot fruit on the palate, finishes with an earthy and flinty note and nicely integrated fruit acid and very fine tannins. All good enough the first time around, but the second day the wine had taken on a bit more weight and breadth on the palate, losing none of its freshness. Tasted on the second day side by side with a newly opened bottle of 2005 Mercurey "Clos de Roy" from Chandesais. The second wine was riper, broader and far weightier on the palate -- and dull by comparison with the Savigny. The Champy Savigny, open for 24 hours, had way more life and energy about it. Lovely wine and likely better a year or two from now.

December 25, 2008 - RoundersRob hit it pretty much on the nose about this bottle. Not uch to add to that.

December 8, 2008 - Popped and poured. Medium ruby hue. Somewhat muted aromas of red fruits, earth, and forest floor accented with a touch of green. Medium body. Initially, the fruit stood out, with a nice core of red cherry flavors heightened by plus acidity. However. this one really shut down after about 30 minutes in glass and wasn't giving much of anything. Chalky tannins didn't help. Let this one sit for at least another 3-5 years....might improve into something decent.
