November 5, 2019 - Hints of barnyard, unripe blackberry, blueberry, cigar box, gravel; a little hard, still tannic, balanced, smooth, and substantial but somewhat monolithic, moderately long finish; may improve further with time

October 15, 2019 - Nose of cigar box, black currants, and black cherry, same on the palate, big body, very tasty, almost delicious, mouth filling wine, opened nicely throughout the evening, and a long, flavorful finish.

October 12, 2019 - Deep ruby, minimal bricking and more youthful than expected for a 1995 Bordeaux; highly aromatic, blackberry, blackcurrant, some minerality, some graphite, slight sweet tobacco; palate is full bodied, black fruits, fresh medium-plus acidity, tannins still youthful but approachable, midpalate still has fruit but not as complex as the nose; finish is medium length and fades off a touch towards the end. Not quite as strong as my last 2 bottles, but still an excellent bordeaux headed into early maturity. I think the slightly more modern style of Leoville Poyferre blends well with the more austere 1995 vintage, as this has a bit more fruit, concentration, and enjoyment than most 1995s that I've had. 93
2 hours decanted: Largely the same. Good fruit, nose intensity > palate, palate has maybe fleshed out a touch with more minerality than before, better fruit concentration through the midpalate; still just a touch shorter than desired on the finish. A nice Bordeaux.
5 hours: Not really improved with more air. Now maybe starting to hide its nose just a bit.

August 28, 2019 - Dinner at Imperial Treasure TPC. Deep ruby. Relatively low acidity, medium body. Quite concentrated and generously fruited, no signs of fading. Tannins still present but not harsh and provides good structure. Well balanced overall with some complexity and a long finish. Aging slowly and keeping very well for a 24 year old wine. Probably the best 1995 Bordeaux I have had so far and edges out a 1996 (a vintage widely considered to be superior to the 1995) Leoville Barton I had a few days back.

Dry, very well integrated tannin, high acidity, medium alcohol, medium body. Flavor intensity medium, with blackberry, toast, white pepper, tomato leaf. Medium finish.

    Good - Balance, intensity

(Chateau Léoville-Poyferré St Julien) A red-purple wine. Classy, youthful, typical St Julien on the nose. Sweet blackcurrant fruit. Closes down in the glass after a little while. Fat and rounded texture on the palate. Plenty of fruit. Lots of tannin on the finish, but acidity on the low side. This one needs two or three years more in the cellar.
