March 27, 2024 - Keith's Italian Wine Dinner (Osteria Langhe - Chicago IL): Opened 3 hours, 1 in decanter. Old school style, but borderline dirty. Good density. Flawed? Probably, but otherwise an 85 point wine tonight.
March 16, 2024 - A good deep colour, bright ruby with a bit of bricking at the rim; still looks youthful. Dark fruits, balsam, a hint of twigginess. Muscular, robust. Good balance, still pronounced tannins. Lacked a bit of energy and lift but still impressive in a somewhat charmless fashion.
February 19, 2024 - Aerated to decanter for 1 hr; continued to develop in the glass over the following 90 minutes. Just a touch of age to the rim, with bright notes of red flowers, red licorice, soil and fresh cherry, etc. Med+ body with ample acidity that remains fresh. The tannins are very fine, ripe and there's a a rounded edge to them. This has many good years yet ahead and is likely to develop more with continued rest. For my tastes, this is certainly in its preferred plateau and likely to remain here for another decade with careful cellaring. highly recommended

August 20, 2023 - Virtually no bricking in the dark garnet showing. Tar, roses, fennel and earth aromatics with a stunningly pure, long palate presence. Beautiful focus and intensity on the palate and utterly perfect balance, with no excess weight or heat to it. Fabulous, and plenty of upside still here.
April 7, 2022 - Piece Pizza and Barolo (Eric&Megan's, Chicago IL): There is a real savory, dark, and searching quality to the nose that is extremely alluring with dark red cherries, raspberries, cranberries, licorice, roasted herbs, crushed rocks, violets, earth notes, and some pipe tobacco. There is excellent depth with this really showing off some restrained power. The full bodied feel shows off the restrained power of the nose along with mouthwatering, high acidity and silky, high tannins. This is beautifully entering the zone right now and is akin to a light heavyweight fighter. This does pack some punch, but the structure has pulled back to the point where this is just flat out enjoyable.
November 7, 2021 - Not very expressive today. Modest oak aromatics. Mature, soft, rather tame flavor. I was expecting more power.
February 14, 2021 - Farge: Litt mørk murstein, med lys kant
Duft: Halvtørr kjeller
Smak: Tok lang tid å åpne seg, selv etter dekantering.
Kraftige, godt rundene tanniner. Surkirsenær, kreke og krekling. Kraftig!
Dag 2
Duft: Gamle fat og hint av mørkerød frukt. Lær?
Smak: Kraftige tanniner, god syre. Noe morken ved, kreke og krekling.
Fortsatt kraftig. God
December 16, 2019 - Tasted over three days - this is one hard nut to crack. Tannins are tough, unforgiving, the concentration is immense - and you do need to wait for this. A real Serralunga wine thart just might come around in five years - not sure. Served blind MB picked out Piemonte right on.

September 5, 2019 - Superb producer and a superb vintage that has been worth waiting for. Everything sits together seamlessly, fruit is alive and complex, Serralunga minerals drawing you towards the dark side, the acidity putting up a fight to keep you in the light, tannins are rounded and add to a serious length. Wonderful with a risotto full of autumn chanterelles and just as good for after. Powerful but still easy to drink. Consider me seduced.
February 1, 2019 - At 15, this is still too young but has clear potential. Tar, roses, bright cherries, but absolutely monster structure that needs another 10 year to resolve. Perfect balance, but a monstrous tannic wall makes this difficult to sip without rich braised meats. This is textbook Barolo.
