March 4, 2023 - CV. Dark red, yellow tinged, 5.5. Generous classic Medoc bouquet in the early stage of maturity, pencil, dark fruits, violets, forest floor, complex. Harmonious palate with a good grip, m+T, m+A, mB, racy fruit, long elegant well balanced finish. Drink now-2033

Enjoyed alongside Leoville Las Cases ‘01 which is more closed and dense not ready now and might be a higher quality wine at the end of the day. But for enjoying now G-L is my choice.

February 22, 2023 - Had a 2nd bottle of this just days after my 1st. This one showed more age, a little brett, lots of mushrooms, and some cranberry tartness making it less wonderful compared to last week's bottle. The fruit is still beautiful and the finish is still very long. I don't have any more of these, but if I did I would drink them up based upon this bottle's showing.

February 16, 2023 - Beautiful nose of cigar box - classic Bordeaux. The palate has way more fruit than I expected at this stage, and lots of tannins still. This was outstanding now, but I think can age for quite a bit longer - drink now through 2031.

January 7, 2023 - Lovely wine and showing better than I expected. Gorgeous aged cherry fruit with hints of mint and tobacco. Medium bodied with a somewhat truncated finish of gentle tannins. Great wine!

Rockss and Fruit

(Gruaud-Larose) Ehhh...maybe one of the most boring wines on the left bank? Well maybe GPL and Lynch-Bages could nudge it out but your mileage may vary. I have liked GL in the past but it really underwhelms me these days. This was out of half bottle and had a nice floral nose with a ton of spicey oak and some mineral. Palette was rich and creamy with lots of unfocused red fruits and major barrel flavors. It later became shrill as the acid became the dominant force. It was correct wine but just so boring. I find certain left bank estates like GL, LB, GPL to be a bore. I don't know why. It's just there is no excitement in the wines. Everything is predictable and these wines and wines of the same ilk are just good, plain old fashioned Bored-deaux.

(Gruaud Larose) Nose of tarry oak, asian spice, earth and slight cassis. Nice nose. Great concentration of red fruits with a hint of vanilla from the oak. Good acids and around a 15 second finish. Very open. Excellent Gruaud for drinking now and for maybe 10-12 more years.
