March 19, 2024 - This is still a very good wine, but past its peak. It needed a two hour decant and the second glass was better. A little more subdued now, but exhibits the smooth, jammy Lewis style I enjoy most. A little alcohol burn on an otherwise long finish.
October 12, 2023 - Pretty decent all things considered. Decanted a few hours, needed it. Last of three bottles of the night w the poker gang. This was savored the most among a nice 04 Spanish Granache and 02 Quilcida Creek Merlot.
Definitely had more richness. This was gone fast. In a perfect drinking window and I expect will stay there a few years before gradual decline.
June 18, 2023 - Had over several nights, Coravined, big nose of mature Cabernet. Palate dhows dense dark fruits, still good supportive tannins, black cherry, tea, cola , vanilla, and a little perstent heat. Excellent!
June 9, 2023 - Great fruit still standing.
January 20, 2023 - Ah, the reward of patience!
This was a lovely bottle of wine. Everything has now started to come into place - the fruit, tannin resolution, balance, flavors, complexity and a long finish.
Even with all of this going for it, I believe that this Lewis will get better.
This Lewis proves - yet again - that if one is patient, California wines will reward you and make you smile.
November 18, 2022 - This wine (at least, this particular bottle) needs a few years more in bottle before it really begins to "sing." Stated another way, it is a few years behind the beautiful 2003 Lewis Reserve in development that we enjoyed a few weeks ago.
Right now, it is rich and powerful but the tannins are not fully resolved. It is mouth coating and has a long finish. It did start to develop in the glass, and would have benefited from decanting.
In conclusion, the future is "up" for this wine.
September 18, 2022 - Still an exceptionally rich and lucious Napa cabernet, last bottle of 4. Drank over 2 nights. Wine may be slipping a bit from its prime, but is still a great example of a well-made Napa cab thriving at 15+ years.
November 21, 2021 - Still at peak, and still amazing. Tobacco, soft tannins and dark fruit
June 20, 2021 - Looks young, dark red. Chocolate, graphite, cinnamon and cherry cobbler on the nose. Still has lots going on, black cherry, dark chocolate, bitters, grilled herbs fine grained tannins and a savory finish.
May 25, 2021 - Monthly Men's Wine Dinner (2120 Restaurant, Seattle): Just a beautiful, well-integrated, aged Napa Cab with mocha, black and red currant, mature tannins, and a touch of spice. Drinking at peak. My #3 of 6 and the group's #2.
