September 7, 2019 - I drink a 2008 not so long ago and it seem overprice for what it is - not this one - Is really good and don't wait - I don't believe is going to get better. Iodine - Black cherry, well balance!
The wine looks inky colored. The legs are slow. There is light sediment in the bottle. It smells like black currant (cassis), prune and espresso.

August 2, 2019 - Served blind, the fourth of 5 red wines between the 1997 Ornellaia Masseto and a 2002 Blankiet Paradise Hills. I guessed this was an 08/9 Macchiole Italian Merlot, definitely believed it was one of the younger reds on the table, so at least I guessed that! Powerful dried black herbs and fruitcake spice. Really nice medicinal black cherry and blackberry nose. Still rather astringent on the finish for having been opened at 4:30am today. Still a lot of chewy, youthful sweet oak. This one went better with the grilled broccoli and potatoes and did not go as well with the New York strip loin. Definitely good, but this and the 5th wine (a 2002 Blankiet Paradise Hills) were both overshadowed by the first three wines (97 Insignia, 98 Haut Brion and 98 Ornellaia Masseto). From a very good 2001 Napa vintage, this one was good but wasn't a contender for the gold, silver or bronze medal.

July 9, 2019 - Decanted at Bici, and paired superbly with spare ribs. I thought this wine was bigger and more enjoyable that my previous experience three years ago, but my notes are otherwise consistent. Our WOTN.
