November 13, 2021 - Man I love this wine! Funky red fruit, garrigue and spices on the nose carry through to the palate. So much complexity in this. Really should buy more. 94+
November 11, 2021 - Mixed bag (The Kenwood): Totally Pegau, with fruit and funk. Great fruit, great earth, tar, forest floor, minerals. A real treat.
November 11, 2021 - Luis rides again @ The Kenwood: PnP - Consistent with previous note...again, no bret (maybe the vintage?) The nose showed plenty of dark fruit, smoked meat and some spice and earth. The palate also showed plenty of dark fruit, blood, iron and smoked beef with earth and wood. It displayed an impeccable balance between fruit and tertiary goodness! My WOTN. 94+
November 11, 2021 - Mixed WTDS at The Kenwood (The Kenwood, Mpls, MN): Dark red color with a 6mm bricked edge. Like the 2000 Beaucastel two nights ago, this 2000 Pegau is gorgeous. Funk, garrigue, wonderful spice box, really lively and energetic, cherry, cassis, with that amazingly deep earthy Pegau signature, absolutely delicious. Has that Burgundian character too. 93+ to 94pts.
November 5, 2021 - Bottle and cork in great shape. Slow ox 3 hours in cellar. Pours a dark cranberry, slight bricking, medium transparent. Nose is mature: dried orange peel, dark chocolate, strawberry, baked pie shell, ancient forest. Full, plush, silky structure. Palate has red cherry, tobacco, cocoa, charred oak, bacon/charred chicken skin, dry sage toward finish. Acid is totally integrated, comes across creamy. Evolves well over 2 hours showing great complexity.
October 30, 2021 - Open 5 hours. Well done buttered toast, Provence herbs, slow cooked beef, sautéed mushrooms, baked tomato, really like a beef stew. Also some black fruit with air. Then sweet red fruit on the attack, ripe raspberry and red currant especially, and then adding strawberry on the finish with the herbs. Damp herbs on the finish. Tomato on the palette too. Really good, drink now.
October 29, 2021 - Stood up for four days. Five hour slow oxidation. A medium ruby core fading to a medium garnet outer edge. Heady, expressive nose where the fruit - red and black currents - take a back seat and damp herbs, hedgerow, violates, lilacs, cured meat, and roasted tomatoes come to the fore. A harmonious, refined, and sleek palate full of ripe black fruits, sautéed wild mushrooms, roasted pancetta, green peppercorns, mushroom tapenade, and a touch of spice. Clearly a pleasure to enjoy with many of the signatures of this region and producer on display despite lacking a little in terms of pure depth and concentration necessary to take this to the next level.
October 20, 2021 - Drinking well. Should have decanted but we were camping and there was no decanter to be found.
September 30, 2021 - PNP. Clear medium garnet. Some smoked bacon, garrigue, leather and kirsch notes that had me hopeful. Sadly, a lean palate trying desperately to hang onto the last vestages of fruit with a drying finish. From a well-stored bottle seemingly about 5 years past its best.
