January 16, 2024 - - Brick color with a long finish - After opening, the wine had a forest floor earthiness on the nose. With the pour and a few minutes, the dark fruit and pepper started to join the party. The wine has a complexity of oak, spice and fruit which works well. Its deep and bold. Holding up well and a few bottles left in the cellar. I wouldnt wait too many years but it was a special taste.

July 9, 2021 - Part of a 4 bottle private purchase of high end wines (this, the '04 Dominus, a '06 Special Selection (Caymus) and a '03 Rubicon) about 4.5 years ago; total was $445, so this was probably about a quarter of that. On the nose and palate, bright sweet black cherry, cassis, mixed dark berries, and black currant, smoke, wet earth, spice, dark florals, anise, leather, chocolate, espresso, singed embers and drying tannins, which I love but which I know others don't, on the end. Dark purple, medium to full-bodied, thick legs. Powerful tannins which integrated well with air, medium+ acidity, a bit of heat which also integrated fairly quickly. Complex, with great persistence and intensity. This wine bore more than a passing resemblance to the Profile, but unlike that wine which came out of the bottle singing, this was both a bit boozy and unbalanced on the initial 1 oz pour. After 2.5 hours of air, though, this was just beautiful, with all of the elements--the fruit vs. structure, the sweetness vs. the savoriness, and the power vs. subtlety--working together in perfect harmony. This ever so slightly edged out the Profile, IMO, because the note of the embers and the tannins gave it just a bit better contrast than that wonderful wine, but again, this wine seems severely underrated on CT (less so among the pros, where the WS had it as a top 25 wine of '08). Perfect match with chicken basil orzo and a very good one with deep dish pizza, but this also excelled on its own, with its elegance and superior balance making for a sublime drink. Has held flawlessly over 3 nights, indicating lots of life left in this one. I'm left to ponder whether the middling reviews are another example of people drinking too early and/or without sufficient air, as the bottle age and aeration really seemed to open up this wine (just so that this doesn't seem like I'm a total jerk criticizing others, I bought 4 or 5 bottles of the '13 Signature from this producer which I found unexciting, but I drank them all within 5 years of bottling and without much air, so I'm guilty in part of what I'm charging others with; I did buy another 3 of the same vintage which are going to rest for a while). This is my first time with this bottling, but I'll do my level best to make sure it's not my last. 96-97, with a ringing recommendation.

June 9, 2019 - Deep ruby color. Lots of jammy fruit and long finish. Tannins still evident indicates this wine can last many more years.
