March 3, 2024 - Second wines deliver! This Pontet Canet 2nd wine is a blend of CS 59 %, Merlot 39 % and 1 % of both CF and PV: dry, cherry, tobacco, smoke, oak, leather, blackcurrant, medium body, long dry finish.
August 17, 2023 - I agree with MS86, this shows remarkable youth given it is a second wine, albeit from a great vintage. Personally I enjoyed the fruit and would drink now.
October 6, 2022 - Impressive longevity, especially for a second wine. Clear, medium almandine to ruby in glass.
Nose is ripe and juicy with juice berry candy, oregano and basil.
On the palate the wine feels young and primary with notes of graphite, ripe red fruit and powerful acidity.
There is plenty of room to mature. I’m guessing this won’t hit peak for another decade.
April 4, 2021 - Fresh blackberry, raspberry nose. Good dark fruit on the palate with good acidity and moderate tannins. Medium bodied and shorter finish than the first wine.
January 25, 2021 - I still have a few bottles in my cellar and is still very good.
August 16, 2018 - Smooth, still tannins, but nice, earthy
April 2, 2018 - mcease has got it right exactly. Still nice just not complex but easy to enjoy with roast leg of lamb.
April 15, 2017 - I enjoyed this. Good wine but not very complex. Red fruit and very round tannins, but there is still a little bit of bite left. Prominent notes of tart cherry coming through which I usually don't enjoy. 90-91 points.
March 14, 2017 - Short decant. Consumed with chicken pot pie. Nice nose with smooth mouth feel. Most of the alcohol had blown off. Well integrated
September 19, 2014 - Drinking very well. Darker fruit notes. Smoothed out. Fruit is still prominent. The secondaries are beneath the surface. Nice coating. Not overdone. This has calmed down considerably since last note. In a good spot right now.
