February 4, 2024 - Lovely, just lovely. Old bottle decant, mid sediment. Almost a milk chocolate color. Old posh leather and tobacco. Zero tannin. Wife said she tastes something savory like bacon fat. I didn’t get that, but she’s more refined in her flavor profiles. I feel that this could continue to age another decade.

March 6, 2022 - This was the best showing of my tasting for this wine which my dad has in his cellar and we've tasted many times because he has a good supply. Knew it would be reliable, took it to Gilbert's steak house in Omaha. Opened it second and minimal decant. Good amount of sediment, lighter in weight and color but nice floral elements and a lovely wine with wonderful mouthfeel with steak. Drank after 1986 Angelus and it was not a huge transition but the 86 Angelus was just amazing (see notes). I just love R-S and this wine may be just a tiny bit past peak as the finish is not very long and the aroma is not super powerful but all the bottles we have opened have been great.

August 16, 2021 - From Dad's cellar. He chose this for the meal of Civet de Lapin and chicken a la Henriette. This is the best bottle I can remember of this wine (he had a lot of this wine, so we've enjoyed it quite a few times the last few years). Still relatively youthful in appearance apple red. Gained weight with an hour in the glass and was just outstanding example of R-S. I love this wine with meats with sauce because of the floral element it has and just enough fruit to give it some mix of primary, secondary and tertiary aromas and flavors. This one had low neck fill, moderate sediment. Interestingly, it did lose something overnight (we had a little bit left day 2) but it was still good and with a nice long and soft finish. I would say drink now for this wine as it's not likely to improve but some bottles if well stored as these have been probably have more life left than others. 95

May 25, 2021 - From dads cellar perfectly stored as always but the bottle was very dusty. He came home from hospital and mom made civet de lapin so I took the Liberty...Base neck fill. Cork funky but removed easily intact with Durand. No way it makes it out that way otherwise imho. Moderate but not a ton of sediment. Brought to room temp several hours before opening. Immediate decant with filter about 1 hour before dinner. Good almost from the gun after initial wiff of mustiness and slight metal. Color deep tawny. Immediate Aroma of sous bois, leaves, dry red fruit and hint of wildflower and mushroom coming on after 30 min or so. Flavor bolder than the nose with more of the same but much more fruit than prior bottles and hints of tobacco in the background and it added weight with time and was best at the end but the three of us polished it off with the Camembert after the Rabbit. Suspect it could have been better if opened earlier but not certain. Beautiful mouth feel, completely resolved fine tannins 20-30 sec finish. Best bottle of this I can remember. I’ve had a few now. Consistently Better than the 82 Palmer in my opinion. Not quite at the level of the magnificent 82 chateau Margaux drank last year but closer competitor than I expected. Perfect pairing with the meal. I think it has some life left but unlikely to improve much and will expect bottle variation with the remainder of these. I just love R-S. Awesome old claret. A Classic ‘82 still lives on. 94
