Community Tasting Notes 5

February 24, 2023 - This was fun. My wife turned 50, so this was appropriate. Slow ox for 8 hours after being upright all night. Age showing on edge. Medium brick red color, more dark than anticipated. Very pleasent. Good balance. Long finish.

September 12, 2020 - Required an hour to open but showed great depth and a very savory character for the vintage.

April 1, 2018 - From 3.78L bottle. Was hard to know exactly what to do here. Opened this monster and tasted a small glass. Was frankly awful. An hour in it had blown off a lot of funk and was rich with some good red and black berries, earth, ash and charcoal. Ended up drinking the bottle about 3-4 hours later and it held up well. Not a great year and very pleased with how this turned out.

March 22, 2013 - Thankfully, Leo is doing much better at age 40 than this magnum is, as it's a shot bottle. Completely maderized. NR.

March 31, 2008 - Tested 30.03.2008 on my brother's 35th birthday. This bottle is perfect condition from Japan. Thanks to R'Nij for bringing us this bottle.

Clear orange colour, Clean red fruit like a fine old Burgundy, lovely nose. Medium-bodied, too old but still enjoyable with a dry and long long finished.

Getting more body and fruit with time. Hints of smoke after 2 hours.... I love this old Gaja....

    Drink now ( decline )

ps. IMO, for Gaja's top wines and good vintages should be drunk atleast 20 years after released.
