January 26, 2024 - Great nose on opening. Integration is complete and this wine is singing
October 31, 2022 - This has been open for a few days on the counter after being recorked and wow I think it is better than ever. Impeccable balance, fruit is still center stage with notes of spiced oak, fresh cut flowers, stewed tea, olive brine, and a lifting finish.
October 23, 2022 - Root Day- Decanted off a small amount of sediment - about a teaspoon. Still garnet in the glass. Nose is exceptional - red flowers, wet earth, black fruit, black olives, fresh savoury herbs and even a little smoke. On the palate it’s silky smooth with the black fruit and black olive flavours predominant. Ripe and fully resolved tannins and medium acidity makes this wine very alive. The finish is long with the fruit and herbs continuing on. Lovely! In it’s prime with years to go if so desired.
March 21, 2021 - Nose is mostly olive, with prune, herb and menthol (?) behind it. Good acidity in the mouth, fruit in the background, and a long herbal & saline finish. Hard to know for sure, but my guess is that this will not improve.
January 2, 2021 - Sadly my last bottle but opened at my wife's request for her birthday dinner.
On the nose, beautiful aromas of dark cherry, hoisin, and spice. Deep and dark in color with just enough opacity. On the palate, there are flavors of dark cherries, chocolate, and a hint of clove. The tannins have melted perfectly into this wine. Finish is very pleasant and lasts about 30-40 seconds.
This paired perfectly with home made pork neck ragu and paparedelle pasta. Last bottle of this vintage and it is drinking very well. I do not foresee it improving anymore but it still has maybe 2 years before any decline begins.
November 29, 2020 - Purchased direct from winery. 1.5L bottle, decanted for 45 minutes & consumed over 90 minutes. Great balance & freshness despite big dark fruit profile. This has aged well & is fully mature but has life left. Last bottle sadly.
June 22, 2020 - A delicious showing. PnP, this is what aged Washington Syrahs are all about. Dark fruits, hints of game meats, rich pressed olives, yum! In a great spot right now.
March 20, 2020 - DELICIOUS! In its sweet spot now.
September 16, 2019 - Dark black cherry is mixed in with a mouthful of rich coffee grounds and earth. The coffee is a bit over-powering and the wine is a bit one dimensional, but it still makes in impact with its combination of power and elegance. While there are some old world elements present, the wine is unabashedly new world with loads of fruit that hasn't lost any of its influence after 13 years of age. A bit too much alcohol comes forth on the finish and the wine lacks much varietal influence. Very nice, but not outstanding.
December 3, 2017 - Still drinking nicely. Full bodied and thick texture with a some mineral essence that I do not remember from my previous bottle.
