November 22, 2022 - Sweet fruit and balanced wine structure. Well aged and secondary flavors. Drink soon, it is on decline.
June 7, 2020 - This wine is still drinking beautifully. Strong nose of alcohol. Dark concentrated red fruits, plum, tobacco, and black cherries, jammy and plenty of chalky tannin still. High alcohol on the long and lingering finish. There are not many Syrah's on the central coast that would still be singing like this after 15 years. Stand out wine!
April 6, 2020 - Dark, still with plenty of dark fruit but with some burgeoning secondary saddle leather and herbal influences. We did not decant but drank over several hours. It started out without much nose but as the evening progressed the nose and palate opened up extensively. Decant for a couple of hours before drinking.
November 10, 2017 - As the previous reviewers have stated, this wine has many years left. Togerher with a steak it was delicious, but the alcohol was somewhat strong. Without food the alcohol came through slightly too strongly, something I would expect would change with a couple years of cellaring.
July 30, 2016 - Intense mature peaking/declining wine. Tobacco, lichorce, mature dark fruits
January 9, 2016 - This wine has years left of great drinking. Lush and full. The fruit really blossomed with some time in glass. I am in no rush to drink my other bottles. No way is this losing its peak after 2017
April 4, 2015 - An intense full-bodied wine with dark fruit and tobacco flavors and layered complexity. The finish is characterized by well integrated tannins which linger in a protracted diminishing climax.
December 21, 2014 - Wonderful aromas of red mixed berries, cedar, and anise. Rich palate with deep and complex flavors. Medium length finish and mostly resolved tannins. Excellent wine.
December 8, 2014 - Wow. When done right, a GSM is a thing of beauty. I'm convinced Paso is the perfect terroir for Mourvèdre, which adds a distinct signature to blends fom the area. Rich & ripe without being cloying, extracted without being syrupy, high ABV without being hot. What more can you ask? When I saw 16.3% I did a double take, convinced I was seeing things.
October 3, 2014 - I can't believe the balance on this wine for how high the ABV is. Yes, there are stewed and reductive notes both on the nose and on the palette, but there is not even a HINT of heat. Big, ripe, jammy; yes. Hot and unbalanced; not a chance. Perfect with a steak on a cold fall evening.
