December 10, 2017 - Wine Flock Intro Retro - Cabs (Jordan's): Tasted blind in what turned out to be a 97 Cali Cab flight. This is a very modernly styled Cab with a big rich, toasty, mocha nose. Wow, densely packed with ripe toasty black fruit. There is balancing acidity and freshness and velvety tannin. Well-made, with a hint of heat in the finish the only real draw back, if you enjoy the riper, lusher, sweeter style. A bit much for me.

December 10, 2017 - Chicago Wine Flock..."Bordeaux and Cali Cab from Jordan" (Chez Whitehead - Northbrook IL): Tasted double blind in what turned out to be 1997 Cali Cab flight, all open 4 hours in advance with a quick double decant. Starts of sweet and fleshy. Ends less rich, showing more structure and less grace vs Dalla Valle. Still very good.

January 9, 2017 - Decanted and served with steak dinner. The bottle may have been slightly cooked as there was some bitterness on the end and it wasn't as lush as other taters have described. Still enjoyable with young tannin

June 24, 2016 - Dinner at Home; 6/24/2016-6/25/2016 (Fremont, CA): Coravin 6/24/16: Deep ruby with age-appropriate bricking; nose is aromatic, plenty of blackcurrant fruit, spice, cedar; palate is full bodied, tannins still have moderate presence but with fruit, ripe blackberry, medium alcohol, fresh medium acid; medium length finish. Well balanced traditionally made Cabernet but with plenty of juicy black fruit present. A pleasure to drink, and ready now. 92-93
    Day 2: same, excellent.

October 17, 2015 - Rich and deep with formidable tannins upon opening. The cork, which had a 3/4-inch stain, smelled of chocolate fudge upon being pulled. A bouquet of rich, wet earth intermingled with blackberries and plums erupted from the bottle, which carried over into the glass, where it showed off a spectacular necklace, deep plum hue and little evidence of browning.

Takes a bit to settle down in the glass. But the rewards are great over time where the palate picks up smoky raspberries, bing cherries, cassis, cedar, campfire cinders, soy sauce and tar notes that slipped in over time. A bold finish to a full-bodied wine. Additional layers come to the surface over the course of the evening, suggesting this easily has a half decade left on its bones -- at least. A 93+ wine, conservatively evaluated.
