May 7, 2016 - Holding very well and also drinking well. Certainly at it's prime but it should hold for at least a couple of years. No reason to wait on this one.
November 22, 2013 - Golden in color. 14.2% ABV. Pear, apple and smoke on the nose. Viscuous, lively and full bodied. Medium acidity. Lemon, peach, citrus and hazlenut on the palate. Gorgeous Chardonnay with a long, lush finish. I think many underestimate how well Rochioli Chardonnay (the single vineyards in particular) can age. Drink this over the next 1-2 years.
October 23, 2013 - straw yellow color, apple, honey and vanilla nose, mostly apple and honey flavors with some oakiness, more restrained and more acid than the 2006 River Block. Nice medium finish.
October 7, 2013 - Medium-bright yellow-gold color. Aromas of lemon, honeyed pear, apple, and melon. Palate has sweet vanilla, lemon, apple, and pear notes with a slight toasty note on the medium-long finish. Drinking well now. Drink.
September 21, 2013 - Pale straw colour, lovely balance, muted apples and melon. Drink up.
March 20, 2013 - Pale straw color. Aromas of lemon, lime, melon, pear, apple, and a hint of pineapple. Flavors are surprisingly clean and light with lemon, melon, pear, apple, and flowers playing into a sweet vanilla and wood note finish that is medium-long. This surprised both in its youthfulness and the lack of apparent heaviness in terms of oak and alcohol treatment. Drink or hold.
August 22, 2012 - We have owned this since release from the winery. It is starting to get a bit skunky and the finish is slightly metallic. We should have drunk it a few years after release.
July 23, 2011 - Beautiful pale yellow. Well balanced and drinking perfectly right now, and should hold up for a few years yet.
April 19, 2010 - Delightful nose of tangy lime skin, lemon oil, a little buttery toffee, melon, face powder a wonderful floral top-note, a touch of sawdust and distant campfire. There is wonderful freshness when it hits the front of the palate then melon, an pleasing butteriness, a touch of lychee, flowers, and a hint of apple. It glides across the tongue, so smooth and silky. The finish shows zesty citrus finish, minerals, a woody note and excellent length. Great intensity but yet full of subtle shading. At a good point in its development.
September 5, 2009 - The South River is drinking really well right now. A very elegant white wine. It doesn't overpower you with butter and is extremely well balanced. This wine is great right after the Sancerre and before the reds come out. A real treat!
