December 24, 2022 - From a magnum. Beautiful nose of smoke, wood, dark and red fruit and mineral. Palate has more fruit and some tooasted oak notes. Very enjoyable. This wine has many more years in front of it. My sense is that it’s at laeast 5 years before it’s apex. You could probably drink it in 50 and it would be beautiful

May 16, 2021 - A Walk Through Simon Bize 1er Crus: An odd combination of earth and spice. Both in aroma and taste. The fruit is soft but the acid is a bit limp. While this seems past its prime the tannins seem underripe.

Coming back to it a few hours later the fruit played more of a role but the alcohol was showing through more than one would want. The finish seemed to fall apart as well.

This is supposed to be the most approachable of the Savigny 1er Crus so I think I just opened this a bit too late.

February 4, 2018 - Lovely wine, pungent Savigny earth, fruit that is rich and dense and entirely clean and pure. Hard to want more from Savigny, but this wine got a little lost next to the gorgeous Fourrier Combe aux Moines served alongside. Beautiful, and also showing the limitations of terroir.

September 25, 2017 - Tasted blind. Obviously Pinot with all kinds of cool crisp fruits; pomegranate, raspberry, rhubarb. Comes across very clean and pretty lean, not always up to the pairing of braised short ribs. Called it coastal NoCal Pinot. Wasn't in Burgundy at all.

September 23, 2017 - Tasted blind, and it showed extremely well. Fresh, lively, spicy. Lush and long. Clean, not a hint of funk or off flavors. Very pretty.

(FOURNEAUX Simon Bize) Simon Bize Dear Friends, Simon Bize is on fire - it’s as simple as that. I’m extremely excited about both of the wines below and the 2006 portfolio was just gushed over yesterday by Allen Meadows in the new Burghound and I couldn’t agree more. This is one of the finest sets of red Burgundy produced in 2005 or 2006 and few will argue that point once they taste the wines. Even Patrick Bize feels his 2006’s are as good or better than his 2005’s (you can read his verbiage in the Burghound). This Domaine elevates Savigny into new territory and the 2006’s will really wow people. Both of these are VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED and EXTREMELY LIMITED - Please don’t let the one point differential in the scores fool you, they are of equal worth just different styles. Very little of each coming to the US: 2006 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune “Les Marconnets” 2006 Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune “Aux Fourneaux” Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Burg7989 Burg7988
