December 4, 2022 - Tasted over a very good lunch at restaurant "D'Chez Eux" in the 7eme arrondissement in Paris. Uncorked and poured directly, not decanted.

Try as I might, I couldn't get fruit on either nose or tongue. There was graphite, certainly, and something metallic (steel?) or perhaps flinty. Maybe even petrichor, with a hint of cedar or dry deciduous leaves. But nothing remotely touching fruit.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy this. It's a medium-bodied wine, (almost weightless in comparison to some other St Emilion I've tried!) and the overall sensation was dry, supple, and rather well integrated. It developed into a very pleasurable match for pâté en croûte and confit de canard, with its simplicity and austerity providing a pleasant counterpoint to the rich fattiness of the meat.

A very polished achievement but, at this price point, I was hoping for something more profound from the little sister to Cheval Blanc. I'm afraid that means I can't see any way of getting beyond 88/100 here.

April 24, 2021 - Decanted the wine for more than an hour.

Cherry to ruby red in the glass. Already quite some evolution.

Intense and spicy in the nose with aroma's of chocolate, prune and leather.

A silky-soft start with softened up tannins. Very smooth and soft mouth feeling.
Again aroma's of spices, leather, chocolate and prune, joined with aroma's of pepper, cherry on alcohol, cedar and some clove.
    Long finish

This is an outstanding wine which is at it's drinking peak now.
Drink now, this wine will not get any better with aging anymore, I think.

Only other question remains, is it worth it's price (I paid 99 euro)?
    That's open for discussion :-)

November 19, 2019 - Light ruby. Nice simple nose of cherry/plum fruit. Hard to discern much terroir or much Cheval Blanc characteristics. Simple but refreshing on both nose and palate. Can’t see this getting any better. Poor QPR and frankly the second wine of a first should be up to second growth quality given the pricing! Quite Burgundian on the palate, light, flavoursome, well made but ultimately way too light and short for a Bordeaux coming from this stable! No wonder younger drinkers are dismissing this great Chateau given its policy of pricing at the highest of all the first growths yet under-deliverying at the Petit Cheval level in this vintage.

    September 29, 2017 - P&P from 375ml.

Nose - old cedar box, with some spices of cinnamon and nutmeg, dried orange peel, hint of mint.

Palate - medium body, smooth, tannin is all gone. Good balance of fruit. A little salty at the end. Easy and pleasant to drink now. Drink up soon.

September 29, 2017 - Much Better showing than the last bottle. Decanted and aerated for 90 minutes. Blackish ruby Color, nice nose of blackberries, wet stones, sweet spices. On the palate velvety entry, Good acidity, very balanced, black fruits and leather on the palate, medium bodied and a decent finish. Not bad at all for the Vintage!
