November 1, 2020 - Just a stunning wine. 25 years old and still humming. The cork was perfect. Overall lots of femininity to this. Classic Spottswoode . long finish just enjoyable by everybody

November 19, 2019 - Served blind (along side the 1994 Beringer Cabernet Private Reserve) to Walter, Michael and Charles at the Wolf in Oakland. Decanted for 3 hours. Ruby in color. Kirsch and roses on the nose My palate notes are similar are similar to my 2018 notes, but this time with more black cherry and a touch of acidity. Beautiful finish. All guesses (for both bottles) are 1989 - 1996 Bordeaux. (Actually, pretty good guesses)

August 14, 2019 - Purchased last month at The Wine Connection in Del Mar. It was Morewine's retirement celebration and they had popped a 3L of 1994 Dominus which was singing both in perfume and complexity. A true sign that the great 94's are still drinking incredible today, especially from large format. The Spottswoode however came off a little tired last night as we dined at Cucina Enteca. Btw, their buccatini is a must! The color was still almost opaque and I would have never guessed 25 years old, more like 10 as mentioned in previous notes. Classic notes of cedar and tobacco were present. However, the blackberry fruit which although present was fading past its prime. The wine was fully integrated and quite smooth. All is all the wine was enjoyable, but for $300+ it lacked the fireworks that I was hoping to experience. My consensus is that this bottle might have had poor storage early otherwise smaller formats of this vintage might be past there prime.

March 30, 2019 - In my cellar since release. Decanted at 5pm and tasted through 9:30pm. Medium to dark garnet with no bricking. Looks like it’s less than 10 years old. Nose has subtle menthol, cedar and tobacco along with pencil shavings, black raspberry, cassis and milk chocolate. Medium to full bodied but tannin is fully integrated and the acidity is bright and mouthwatering. Palate reflects the nose with emphasis on the cedar, tobacco and black raspberry/blackberry. Finish is moderately long...20-30’seconds. Overall wonderful balance, depth and complexity in an elegant package.
